  crap motherboard... a decent one will run with all manner of memory in it, just not at the speed of the faster ones.

  Considering that i have a 266 Mhz FSB, the same speed as the slower RAM, i was rather surprised to discover that, but it doesn't really matter that much as i think that the 256MB stick was on its last legs, and an upgrade to 1GB is on the cards for the next few months anyhoo.
