Difference Between Bloke, Mate, Chap, Geezer, etc.

Can we get a definitive explanation as to what each is? And, if there are some other similar terms, feel free to throw them in there. Thanks.

Geezer is a really old man, and I think mate can be male or female, like friend, the rest I think just means guy...

I wouldn't say geezer, and I rarely say mate. Chap and bloke are fine.

    Also add fella.

Chaps are posh and wear suits with top hats and monacles and occasionly carry a cane for beating poor people.

"eeezeee geeezer". No I don't say that, but I know people that do! I think they are all pretty much the same. Alot of woman uses 'bloke' to describe their other half - 'The Bloke'. No-one I know uses 'Chap'.

I've used all of the phrases to my mates at one time or another.

Someone mentioned that 'chaps' are posh, true, but I've used it in a similar fashion to 'geezer' a few times.

i use chap rather alot, but not in a serious manner

ie "why hello there old chap!" following by a playful punch on shoulder, and said in a piss take posh voice.

Not sure what any of them mean, pretty much the same.

I use them all save for chap. Those that use the word chap are also lieky to use words such as 'old bean', 'tally ho' and 'what what'.

I say 'old bean', beans are absolutely spiffing!

Erm, yeah. Apart from that everyone is either 'bloke' or 'blokey', except the boys downstairs who are always referred to as 'the boys downstairs' much to their disgust. Which is of course why we do it :D

    I say a few things:

"Alrite boss what's the craic"-usually use boss for a stranger or someone you don't know too well

"alrite mucker"-use that talking to mate in a joking way

    "alrite ba"-same as mate

"alrite ya mad cunt"-same as mate
