Goodbye, Humphrey

1390210.jpg

The world of politics is in mourning today, as it was confirmed last night that Humphrey, the No. 10 cat, has died. He arrived in 1989 as a stray cat and Margaret Thatcher let him stay. He was there during the Major years, and left shortly after the Blairs got in amid reports that Cherie did not like him. Stupid bloody woman. >> Story >>

Beep boop. I'm a bot.

Why so sad? He must have been at least 17 - that's ancient for a cat!

Everyone's favourite witch is all too keen to go on about "human rights", usually to pay off the £4m worth of mortgages she has with her husband. But when it comes to animals, no, not the same respect for them.

Humphrey was a much loved figure with more integrity than any of the Prime Ministers he served under. And judging by his renowed mousing skills, far more efficent at his job than his human counterparts.

In fact, the entire House of Commons should be run by felines. :)

He was also responsible for far more achievements than John Major was as Prime Minister. Well, probably. As for letting cats run the House of Commons, I'd prefer that to the vipers we currently have.

Partly that, and partly the slippery nature of our MPs. The way that our Prime Snake in No. 10 can slither away from the blame in any crisis is always astounding.

    Hey!

I do apologise. No animals are as nasty as politicians. Noah wasted such an opportunity. He could have brought about the extinction of all useless animals - rats, vermin, politicians - and what does he do? Takes the whole lot on his ship.

I was looking through the MSNBC site earlier, and they gave the history. When he left Downing Street, the Tories were furious. They accused Tony Blair of having Humphrey put down because Cherie didn't like him. Alan Clark even said; “Humphrey is now a missing person. Unless I hear from him or he makes a public appearance, I suspect he has been shot.”. As a result, they had to arrange for the press to be taken to a South London house to see he was alive and well. >> Details >>

You've got to sympathise with Humphrey in this picture, haven't you?

Well, we know what Gordon will be saying. He won't just be wearing pink shirts by then. He'll be trying to sound hip and cool - "Gordon Brown here, taking over da No 10 joint in da street, yo!".

I think Menzies Campbell is alright, he's one of few people in the Commons I actually like. (yep, the fact I like a LibDem MP... shocking)
