theres loads of excellent foreign films. I dont have a favourite film anyway let alone a favourite foreign film. Im rubbish at choosing favourites.
Burnt by the sun - Russia
Kolya - Czech Republic
I can't stop
Then I really love Blynkende Lygter (Danish) and although 'critics' usually disagree with me, I really enjoyed watching Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte Des Loups).
There's something I've seen recently that I thoruoghly liked, but I can't place it at this moment. Maybe it'll come to me.
Battleship Potemkin by one of the best directors of all time, Sergei Eisenstein
Y Tu Mama Tambien is quality
La Haine (which along with the above has also been mentioned)
Ciudade de Deus (ditto)
Jean De Florette (how can anyone NOT love this film?)
La Bataille D'Algers
Taxi (French version, not the shit American one)
Das Boot
The list is endless...
Agree with briggi.
Also like Y Tu Mama Tambien, City of God and Amelie
The ending of Das Boot just ripped me apart for hours afterwards... incredible film
that's foreign, but quite well known, i thinkkk.
My castle, another that's about an opera but i can't remember the life of me wat the name is something beginning with c- australian
Spirited Away- japanese
i also really like lagaan - a bollywood type film but about cricket sounds strange but i like it!
Very beautiful indeed, unfortunately the copy was in a very bad state, so the colours looked washed-up, couldn't appreciate them much. Very powerful film though, I especially liked the use of music and song in it. Thanks!
...and...
A Swedish(?) film I randomly went to see with a friend. It was a case of, "There's nothing on. Lets go see the film neither of us has ever heard of." We didnt realise it was foreign until it started and we wondered why we couldn't understand it.
I think it was called Evil.
It was about some kid whos sent to boarding school because he's too violent. It was really good.
If not then it has to be crouching tiger hidden dragon
