  i didnt notice HPPD for a while and i think the black stuff was one of the first effects .. i got it a good while before i even knew what HPPD was and at the time i thought that i'd either damaged my eyes from looking into strobe lights off my head or that it was those 'floaters' you can get in your vision (which go away so it couldnt be)
  
  have a look at the sky the next time its a nice day .. thats definately when its most noticeable
