    maybe we should all do this, nominate people, and then the mods can choose the most popular ones and have a vote amongst themselves in each category, the winnders receiving wristbands etc

    and the final voting is closed amongst the mods, as i could imagine having a million polls going all at once would just be crazy jazz

    That's because they're usually very accessible. It's usually a 'Do you like this or this better?' or 'What's your favourite type of <insert random thing>?' Easy to answer and reply to. That, or it's just 3 pages of people moaning about your thread, and you posting smilies.

    Making a thread accessible, in itself, is not a bad thing. I try to do this myself. The last thing I want is for people to feel "oh, I can't answer this thread, there's nothing I can say here". Threads asking questions like "what's your favourite colour/drink/sexual position" are in themselves fine, but at times, they can get somewhat excessive. Let me explain...

    The trick is to make sure there aren't many threads at the time requiring similar responses - timing is important. For instance, back in December 2004 after the tsunami in South East Asia, I made some comments about it being an accident and there was nothing we could do to prevent nature. Many people found this incredibly offensive, indeed when I went to the London meet the following January, a few people used the opportunity to ask me about it. I'm well-aware of people getting the wrong impression from what's written, or taking offence when none was intended, from personal experience. This is not having a go at anyone on the boards - it's pointing out that threads can sometimes annoy people for the most simple of reasons.

    To those that voted me as the best thread starter, I thank you. I try to make threads readable and interesting, so it's nice to know that you enjoy them. Thank you very much. :)

    I agree with that, but when 50% + of the posts are along the lines of 'what washing up liquid do you use' it gets annoying. Particularly when they are all startd by the same person ;)

    for it to be a good thread it has to be based on opninion. which is exactly what "what is your favourite colour " etc isbut to make it interesting and get replies it has controversial, and about a subject people are interested in, which is what s.g. does

    Yea, I have no bad feeling towards him, that's reserved for other people. He can post what he likes.

    I can just understand why he annoys people a bit. Cheering himself every 10 posts he makes and such.
