I had an idea of going to Amsterdam by ferry from North Shields in the summer would anyone be up for it?

    Amsterdam used to be my dream vacation but now that I don't toke no more...I don't see the point.

    Hey, I heard from my mate (who has a dutch mother) that amsterdam has changed its laws so that non-residents i.e. brits going there, can't buy or smoke weed there. Is there any truth to the changes in the laws?


    Speedy replies welcome cos i need to plan a trip for my 21st very soon

    I might go if i could get a cheap enough flight - i've heard all about those ferry trips from the NE errr but I think i live closer to AMS than i do to Newcastle.

    Amsterdam is good though as long as you get the right bit - which for me probably doesnt' include any coffee shops. On the otherhand i've seen a lovely department store in the city centre.

    You say dull.... I think it was just very laid back, which I thought made a nice weekend...

    I dont think you have to smoke to enjoy it there... I spent far more of my time there pissed than stoned and had a great time.

    Got some good bars and a couple of ok clubs!

    It doesnt even compare with somewhere like Barcelona for beauty or Cape Town for its atmosphere.

    nah its a bollocks rumour, dont know where it came from, altho they are more strict on asking for ID than previous times ive been.

    I went to Barcelona not long after Amsterdam (Me and a few mates and traveling major citys in europe on long weekends away here and there.)

    I will agree, Barcelona is a beautiful place, nice people, great food! and again good bars and clubs :thumb:

    I love Amsterdam, I actually do think it's beautiful and interesting and I have an idea/dream of living there at some point. But the "coffee shops" aren't really part of the attraction for me.

    The ferry from N Shields can be a laugh, but the last time I went we spent the entire journey being harassed by pissed troglodytes from Wallsend. It went some way to putting me off.
