Other than the fact that breast cancer is a "sexy" story for the tabloids.

Indeed, when you look at the money thrown at breast cancer compared to bowel cancer which kills men its a joke.

    Breast cancer kills men too.

But yes. There are plenty of examples of diseases with far more victims that get less money than other diseases which are considered "fashinable" causes to support.

If the government started cracking down on families/individuals who abuse the benefits system, the piles of money that would be released could keep the country in herceptin for ages surely. For instance, Jeremy Kyle Show yesterday - a family on it had 15 kids and recieved over £79,000 a year in benefits. And that's just one family on one estate, representative of the thousands of them that actually exist throughout the country.

    Errm, [/rant] :nervous:

Were this family somehow cheating the system? Much as the jeremy kyle show is hardly the best source of truth in the world.... [/off topic]

Not that it really makes a difference, that money that would be freed up, as you say, would still be better spent on nurses, for example.

No, but the only reason they could afford to have fifteen children was because our system is so fucked up that it provides for people with arguably no contribution to make to society, to sit on their arses 'earning' more than twice the average household income, when decent people are denied life saving drugs that cost less than supporting these unemployed people.
