I really love Chan Marshall aka Cat Power, I saw her perform over a year ago and she still gives me shivers down my spine because she's such a phenomenal artist. Also, Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, Chrissie Hynde, Sarah McLachlan, Emmylou Harris, Dar Williams, Suzanne Vega, Tracy Chapman, Joan Baez. I'd quite like to be Joni Mitchell, she's that good.
Avril Lavigne is the worst of all the puppets, I despise her. I think The Pussycat Dolls are as shitty and contrived as it gets, musically and in terms of marketing. I think the Sugababes are the best example of a new(ish), decent female-group. I also like KT Tunstall, she rawks. :thumb:

Christina Aguilera actually can sing, writes all her own songs, and gives actually live performances with out any miming.

Mariah Carey can break glass with her voice and even Mary J. Blige said she revolutionised music for aspiring female singers.

You have seen her nowadays? She's "cleaned up" and turning into a spawn of Nicole Kidman becoming all demure because she wants to be seen more grown up, plus wants a few movie deals because she's getting married and has fuck all to sing about. She sung about shit, too and will continue to do so.
She's the biggest diva ever. She was lovely circa 1996, when she had no tits and was still a brunette. Fuck, you saw her when she was signing cds in Virgin Megastore and someone held a straw to her lip. Bint. She also realises she's older so she's hollering at every Tom, Dick and Harry in the rap business to jive up her songs. Ever since "Honey" she's became a plank.
She is the only one I can stand, really. I'll give you that everyone is capable of catchy songs, doesn't mean that they're the most fantastic musical piece on earth. There are FAR better people, like Lisa Loeb. She's seriously overlooked. I love her to bits.
Joss Stone is alright, she's a bit samey. KT Tunstall, well two of her songs are class and that's about it. She's not anything special. AND KATIE MELUA IS THE MOST BORING PERSON EVER and she's too repeatitive, her songs are also samey and all about pish. Honestly, I've seen aprons with more personality. I want to straighten her hair, her curls always look like they'd fall off or crumble in your hands.

Because you don't like her doesn't make her 'crap'. Her music is good quality, maybe her lyrics are a bit too deep for you if you're in to the "shake your booty" type songs that objectify human relationships (and often women).
Few albums I've heard are as touching as Little Earthquakes.
