I started that thread and I am against it. Yes surprising some of those are in favour of it, especially the American geezers, sounds like they had a rough past...
[QB]in military service[QB]
Its not a big thing as long as people are free to do it instead of complusory.
[QB]in taking away child benefits from needy parents[QB]
definitely against as it is ridiculous.
[QB]that immigrants are all 'scroungers',[QB]
Its me started that thread and I think there are good and bad immigrants, so its hard and unfair to generalise them.
I can't possibly attack you personally, I don't know you. It's not like I've said you smell or something. the point I was trying to make, which has been somewhat lost -which is as much my fault as anyone else's - is about the mindset rather than the individual views. I think the mindset can be more or less summarised as generally believing that people are basically greedy and unlikely to change, whereas the left wing view is that there's at least a chance of this.
Im reluctant to use such emotive terms, but I've always thought that a fairly succinct summary of the conservative -socialist split is that conservatives believe that people are purely selfish, and that this fair enough: socialists believe that this is unfair , and thta not everyone thinks like this anyway. Example? the two views on tax, benefits, social security...
So given this is what Im discussing I can't really help but talk about the mindset.
As for Thanatos - as far as I can tell he thinks that his military experience renders him the world's leading authority on pretty much everything.
Hope this is coherent... (note the paragraph breaks -Im learning!)
I'm glad that we got that all straightened out, and now I guess we can get to debating this issue of mindset?
Are we right wing? I think not. Anyone?
[Paragraphs duly noted and welcomed, as well as the decent vocabulary that one doesn't normally expect of a newbie]
No, no, no, no and no.
Although then again I'm not the typical type of poster here (most extreme libertarian leftie on the political compass), although most of the others aren't excessively right wing, really.
Hitler was, contrary to popular belief a left winger. Facism is not a right wing form of government, but an authoritarian one. Stalin was a facist as well as Hitler. Hitler's economic policies were much more forward thinking than our own, it's a shame he ruined it with all the death and stuff.
As you correctly stated, however, his overwhelming trait was that of authoritarianism, and indeed nationalism.
There are plenty of politicians and ordinary people who are far to the left of Hitler; it is not "impossible" to be so.
When compared to our current prime dick of a minister he is left wing. I apologise for not being more clear <IMG SRC="tongue.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
