I have heard that there is rumors that Google will release there own PC systems and OS to compete with Micro$hite.
I think it will be so cool, hopefully they go and do it they will deliver us
with an OS more stable and efficient than Micro$hite ones.
Anyone heard about it or seen any confirmation of it anywhere?

Probably a rumour. I've not heard a thing, and I am usre I would have by now... it'd be HUGE news if it were true.
I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole myself.
It is their style and now they have more than enough money to go and do big projects like an OS. And well they hate Micro$hite.
Hopefully if they go and do it, it will be like everything they do, stable, fast, efficient and more stable than Micro$hite XP.
although I am worried about the information about you they save on thier data bases
Theres probably about 100 databases with my name all over it already. Another one isnt going to really bother me. Tesco know all my spending habits, I already have a credit rating even though I've never had credit, ucas knows what subjects Ive done and what I want to do and where I want to go. If you've ever played uplink, the world is going like that. Every single bit of info about you is stored somewhere. Medical records on the online NHS database. Etc. etc.
To be fair I also heard rumours that google were building a web browser too... All these things have no doubt been discussed at google labs (I heard the rumour about the OS) but until it gets announced officially i'll just assume it's going to be vapourware.
There are already alternative operating systems out there - more stable and arguably more efficient than the Microsoft offerings. If you want to move away from Microsoft, take a look at one of the more common Linux distributions(Ubuntu and Kubuntu spring to mind), or one of the desktop FreeBSD deriatives(PC-BSD and DragonflyBSD).
I agree this is just rumors and I know there is alternative OS from windows, unfortunatly I have been unable to move as linux based OS and other do not work with certain sotware. Otherwise I think OS like Linux are brillant, for hosting I always get Linux server. Linux based OS are some of the more efficient and stable I think. It is a shame that Micro$gite is a the top.
I am not to worry about google domination tho, I don't think they have the same business spirit than Micro$hite. Their are a next generation of company. I think their goal is mainly to make as many information possible available to the world. Also they might be dangerous as well, sometimes it start on a good idea but get corrupted by money and sensation of power.
There are tools available to help run Windows applications under Linux or BSD, or even a virtual PC so you can run a separate instance of a different operating system - but none of it is especially smooth. Alternatives exist for the vast majority of Windows applications, but not for everything.
One day I just got so peeved with Microsoft that I vowed never to use them again. I've had to go back to them from time to time for short periods - like when I received my Smartphone. Integration with BSD/Linux is okay, but communicating with a Windows PC is far easier.
Anyway, I'm waaaaaay off topic now...
ive been trying to use linux as i dont like the 'clutter' in windows, it takes so long to boot up on my old laptop. however, i've had no end of trouble trying to get linux working. its not that its broken, its just that it almost has to be tailor made for every single system it goes on. if you're not a linux guru you'll struggle
Admittedly, it does take a little more work to get things like network interfaces and video cards configured correctly - but much of it works out-of-the-box with recent distributions.
After all that's how computers used to be like the Amiga, etc, the whole OS was stored on floppy disks (before there was hard drives)
The other day I bought a 1.0GB SD Card, this could easily hold a decent OS on it
And then all you need is perhaps someone like google to offer huge online storage, then you've got your OS in your pocket to take to any computer at home, at uni, etc setup the way you want it and online emails, files, etc.
Great in principle - your favourite OS, on a portable card compatible with any machine. Coupled to a large online data store(which already exists, you can fiddle GMail and have a 2gb or so online partition) - but you're then limited by the internet connection available. There is also the whole privacy and security issue - all my computers run with encrypted partitions, no copies of them are stored off-site. Start keeping your data stored in some kind of central repository and you have to wonder exactly how many copies of it are out there. No matter how well encrypted, in 10, 20 or 50 years time, it'll be decrypted and could fall into the public eye.
Imagine what'd happen today if 10 year old copies of member of parliament data stores were floating around - the revelations! We'd hear all about John and Eggwina, Monica bobbing up and down on the cigar, etc.
Having thought about it, I do still see some merit in the idea. But there are too many pitfalls for the OS on a disk to return. In years gone by, it was done out of necessity(that looks very wrong, but I'm stupid tired!) rather than anything else. Hard disks were a hell of a lot of money - back in the late 80's and early 90's, 20mb hard drives were a luxury. 60mb would be bucketloads for many servers. 720kb double-density floppies were the norm - 1.44mb was, again, a luxury. Hence why the Amiga used a very non-standard format to squeeze an extra 160kb out of the double-density floppies.
Maybe what'll happen is a compromise - maybe we'll have a universally mountable filesystem, and rent space from companies online. We'll store our data on there, rather than faff around with sticking 6 Word documents on a CDR or USB drive - though it'd still be fairly daft to keep anything of any value somewhere you can't see it.
I guess we already do it - many people have their own domain names, and will upload stuff via FTP to a location where they can download it when required. Maybe we have the future, today!
Crikey, this ended up being huge!! Why can't I sleep? I took my sleeping tablet over 2 hours ago, but just cannot shut down. Meh...
Depends on your definition of an OS really.
Also I like the fact Google throw money at interesting projects all the time. Maybe they will bring out some kind of MicroKernal OS. Now that would be interesting.
Think its was on a news channel, at the same time as bill gates launched another moneyspinner.
Ah if that's tha case they are probably to do more like the Apple stuff then, cos if i remember well Mac already released something for web surfing and email only. would probably be cheaper tho...
It's very nice. but no support for 3d cards just yet .
looks good, too bad for the card tho... have they plan support for it?
:thumb: , looks rather nice, how much is it? where from?
