The development rate for 18-21 year olds. On 1 October 2005 rate of minimum wage was raised to £4.25 an hour, from £4.10.

I was thinking that! When I was 16... (four years ago!!) I started my part time job at Debenhams on £3.90 - and that was meant to be good money!

I work full time now, I think I'm on something daft like £8 an hour.

My first job was 3 years ago, working at TK Maxx. I was 17 when I started and I'm pretty sure I was 4.10 but that rose to near £5.00 if I remember correctly.

I'm on roughly £14 an hour on my student placement at the moment. It's going to be horrible when I go back to uni next year!

I like primark - havent bought much there but are good for underwear, socks, swim suits. I bought this jacket a little while ago for £6 - an item exactly the same would be about £20 in topshop. I thought this was a real bargain as it is still in fashion and one of my favs. I dont know anyone who has ever worked there but the store looks more scary then it is i think. But i live in Portsmouth in the south so shops down here could be less busy (due to smaller cities) therefore cleaner? and its true the ques do go very quickly - even tho they are hugely long.

i quite like Primark... i can't usually be arsed to hunt round trying to find things but when you do take the time to look you can get some really good things.
i really dont get why it's such a mess though... other shops arent...

This might seem rude but *does no one care that these stores are making some poor sods in other countries live on starvation wages so they can sell us cheap clothes and make lots of money?* I will Never Ever Ever shop in Primark now I have read that article. I dont want to sacrifice other peoples standard of living so I can get cheap clothes. Then again I am a socialist.

well you could say the same about being a vegetarian. If noone boycotted these stores Gap would have never have changed its ways and we wouldnt have fairtrade. Every little helps.

Anyway wouldnt you personally feel guilty if you bought stuff from those stores to know that you are contributing to the suffering of other beings on this earth.
I am not a religious/ hippie freak and I am not trying to have a go at anyone. Its just my point of view.

Who exactly are primark, what's their background? All I know about them is that one day we had a C&A and the next it was Primark.

I don't shop there often but today I bought a really nice winter fleece jacket there for £14 - and when they ran it through the machine it came up as only £11, got a few other bits and pieces.

What do you guys think of them?

You know I've taken a good look at my jacket and discovered so many nice details about it, even discovered some extra pockets and zips I didn't know was there, and noticed details in the stiching, etc

I was looking for a nice warm jacket for winter and it's pretty amazing for the price.. :)

I was also looking for something I could wear when going abroad on weekend trips, etc and something that would provide a bit of protection from pickpockets and all the hidden pockets with zips are great for that.

    quite amazing really for £11
