So scared.

Whilst reading an essay written by my older sister, a horrible idea was introduced to me. I feel terrible, thinking of death now and then, wondering what will happen when you die. It is almost like I want to forcibly choose a religion just to take away the alternative of a neverending presence in darkness - which would never end. If I chose a religion, I have to genuinely believe in it too - not just to save my skin. This would be supplanted by life in Heaven , the Nirvana string or Reincarnation perhaps?
The good news:
I start to appreciate life to a larger extent than I did, let's say, a year ago.
The bad news :
I'm only 14 and I have my whole life in front of me. Right now, I might think: 'well, I have 50- 75 years to live', but what would happen when those years have gone? There will be no turning back - only one alternative left. It can't be healthy thinking in this way could it?
What do you think? The older you get, the more frightened you tend to be of death. Would you be selfish and scared when you come to the final hour of your life, then end of your time at Earth? What would you do if you were given the chance of taking your own life if you were in a hospital, suffering from a lethal disease or an injury. Would you hold your head high or start enduring such amounts of anxiety which probably couldn't be named.
Appreciate any sort of comfort - even if I know that religion is never certain, only beliefs, beliefs and beliefs. I wish it wasn't that way.

your 14 and thinking about death ...i'm 52 and no where near ready to even begin thinking about it!
i've just started out on a new adventure in fact ...which i am planning on being deeply involved with for at least the next twenty years.
i believe the biblical version ...from dust you came ...and to dust you will return.
No, they weren't links.
The question is, is death a process or an event? I am not a realistic person, and still i can't believe that you can just 'go' to a heaven or a hell - nor could your soul do that.
Are there any religious people on this site?
Please corroborate my faith, or give me a push in the right direction.
The problem with the above, is that it can never be answered. Never, never and never. As i am the disorientated teenager, how could I answer these questions if not roll could or half a billion people around the world? I guess I have to guide myself, somehow, somewhere.
There are other things going on atm that kills me. Luckily, I have school under control, and am acing 60% of the exams (irrelevent anyway). I never socialise - i have approx. five hours for myself every day. Even if I occupy myself somehow, the mind starts spinning in these questions. This gradually kills me, as i have become another huming being - never being myself, never being natural. I feel like a stone in the midst of sunshine - I remain grey whilst everything around me shines .
do you have one or are you looking for one?
many people have faith ...from indoctrination ...bad idea.
some have faith based on evidence ...good.
Nah. I seen loved ones die, sat up with people on their way out. For one at least, it was a mercy. You only get so long and it's yours to do what you want with. So do what you want with it.
It's just something else you were born to do, nothing to be afraid of. Dying will be the last thing I will do!
Would it mean anything if it was eternal?
Still pictures are great, but moving ones are better.
Ever thought of taking up sculpting and painting?
Thing is, we're all going to die so stop moaning, if there's something after it then yipee a bonus, if not, then fuck it, at least you lived life to the max.
I don't want to die or like the idea of it, but I accept it's going to happen one day...no point panicking about it and wasting the time you do have.
As Mark Twain said: "The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time."
That's what I'm afraid of. I can never become genuinely religious if I start only because if a privilege of a religion, not the practise.
Then I need evidence - which I can't find. I have tried all possible scenarios, and always end up with the one which is most likely to be true, this one:
Then why not choose to believe that?
Do you really wanna live forever, spiritually or otherwise???
Interesting point. Maybe eternal life isn't something everybody wants. Maybe there is no life after death at all, and the time after death is a void which isn't scary at all. However, you miss out on all the good things when you're dead .
To answer the question, I really can't make up my mind - it is such a big topic. I am so confused, and probably can't distinguish a sin from virtue.
Why not just be a non-believer then?
Isn't being an atheist a non-believer? What is the difference?
An atheist doesn't believe there is a God full stop, a non-believer just doesn't believe, even though accepting others do and might go to heaven themselves.
So a non-believer is more or less an agnostic?
Pretty much only agnostics accept that if there is concrete proof they'll believe in God. Which is me more or less.
But debating such labels is dull.
No, lets look at the prefixes, mono means one, like christains and jews and muslims, monotheist, believing in one god, polytheist, believing in many gods, pantheists, believing everything is god, atheists, believing in no god, choosing not to have faith, whatever outcomes of any investigation in the matter.
fine up to there.
that makes no sense.
monotheists belive in a single god, whatever outcomes of any investigation in the matter. If another godor gods manifested they would point to the bit which says "though shalt have no other god except me, for I am a jealous god, and will have an almighty sulk. And there shall be smiting"
polytheists believe in multiple, interactive gods (eg Hindus), whatever outcomes of any investigation in the matter. If another god or gods manifested they would fit them into their pantheon. If this god tried the "I'm the only god" bit, they'd laugh and say "you naughty little godlet, telling such fibs."
pantheists believe that the god-thing reveals itself in different forms to different peope (eg Sikhs) whatever outcomes of any investigation in the matter. Another god turns up, they say another manifestation. This god tries the "only me" bit, they say "whatever. we believe the version of you that says you have other forms"
agnostics believe it is not possible to know. Should evidence of another god turn up, they'd say "OK, so you can know. But how do you know what form this god'll take?" And should a god turn up, they'll be asking wether montheism, poltheism or pantheism is the route to take.
an atheist believes in no gods. But they tend to be far more rational that the others, and should any evidence turn up they'll say. Well damn me I was wrong.
Yes, probably .
If you go on thats sweet and if you don't you won't relaise it so hey, whats the big deal?
I perosnally don't think you go to heaven or hell, at least most don't, there could be exceptions but I think you go to an intermdeiate place. the Afterlife. Thats where I think you go. I guess there may be levels within it and you may even stick around on this plane as a grounded spirit.
I'd say think but don't worry.
