I think it stupid this massive drive to make everyone leaving school go to university! There should be equal encouragement for people to not go to university but take up apprenticeships and learn real skills and become plumbers and builders and stuff, since they are in such high demand as there are hardly any of them.

University is over rated anyway. What is the point of a degree if everyone else has one too and most are as good or better then yours.

Because if you don't have one, you aren't on the same playing field as people applying for jobs with one. And it varies from person to person if the degrees of others are "as good or better."

Is it any wonder that students and young people generally are so disinterested in politics and so cynical of politicians when they are continually ignored and shafted by those in power?

Is it any wonder that politicians ignore students when the talk so much bollocks?

Students should be grateful that they have got such a good university system.

I know French and German students who have come over here and have been impressed by the standards of our universities because in France and Germany, where the university is free, their unis are comparatively crap due to chronic lack of funding, does that surprise you?

Let's be clear then what exactly we value about universities. Is it the degree or is it the experience itself?

How is the number of students currently decided each year?

It is both, different for each person I suppose, nothing worng with that.

Number of students is decided by the ability of universities to provide places, as it should be. If the universities are willing to provide the places, and the students are willing to go then who is to say they can't?
