Erm, differnet people do drugs for different reasons - the worst, imho, being for escapism.
There's a starter for you.
There's many reasons why people take drugs. It's escapism for some, enjoyment for most. Drugs have a general bad rep, they're not that bad tbh.
And no, you're not the only one who doesn't do them. We respect the people who don't use as much as those that do. It's all about choice. Just don't judge your friends, that's all :thumb:
Some people get this from sport or exercise, or painting, or sex, others from drugs.
I guess a more interesting question would be why you dont, than why others do.
i never want to do them because i have no reason to - i can have fun without them
the odd harmless minor drug isnt going to do much damage, its just when it gets really out of hand and people get so hooked up on them they cant do anything but think about their next hit when its really stupid
oh and Es too...they're quite dangerous cause aparrantly they can have anything in them so can be at different strengths, especially when you don't know where they've come from. they seem more like a nightclub drug though. So mixed with alcohol is not good
So can I thankfully.
peer pressure
escapism
self medication
suppressing bad feelings
boredom
easier to socialise on them (lowers inhibitions)
many many reasons
Most people can. You just have more fun on them
Its all about personal choice, some people can take drugs without being dependant on them others can't, there are many reasons why they do fun,
peer pressure, escapism, self medication, suppressing bad feelings, boredom, its easier to socialise on them (lowers inhibitions), to rebel againt their parents/family/society, its all they have even known (ie there older siblings all took drugs)....god the list is endless.
Personally I don't need drugs to have a good time, I don't even smoke and really have more then a couple of drinks when I go out on Fridays and Saturdays. Everyone is different.
Good for you, most people that take drugs don't either.
:banghead:
Very true.
Most of my good times are had when I'm completely clean/sober/lucid. It's also worth mentioning that I've had some of my not-so-good times when I've been on one thing or another.
Doesn't mean I don't like to dabble every now and then, the fact that someone takes drugs doesn't automatically mean they're a depressed, inhibited, social reject when they're not taking them.
But, as is the accepted mantra when discussing this kind of thing; each to their own, indeed
Relatively speaking, E's are one of the safest drugs there is.
Only a handful of people die a year from taking them, whereas 4,000 people die from alcohol.
And I can have fun without drugs aswell, no one said we need them. It's just extra fun.
The occasional hard drug probably isn't going to harm you too much either. Addiction is largely about being so fucked up/unhappy you need escapism - that's not stupidity, far from it.
People seek new experiences...and drugs are a hugely involving experience.
The vast of majority of pills are either MDMA or something like MDMA (MDA etc). I've never heard of anyone complaining about dodgy pills other than having weird experiences (not particularly unusual) or weak strength. Rumours of heroin etc are nearly always bullshit...the people who make it are obviously going to want to produce decent pills, otherwise they'll struggle to find a market.
Also it's not difficult to talk to people about the current batches circulating in your area.
Also, if I there was a particularly stressful event to take place the next day, I would use drugs to simply relax and relieve my anxiety. This also has positive long-term effects, as I gained confidence (on or off drugs) with each successful social engagement or related event. Before I knew it, I had done so much successfully with the help of drugs, it has helped me to build up my confidence to the point that I can be just as social without them.
Ok, and I admit it, everything is WAY more enjoyable while you're high above the clouds...
some people want to be away on holiday all the time.
the more sensible holliday makers realise that you DO ACTUALY HAVE TO GO BACK HOME AND DO SOME CHORES!
... and just out of interest why don't you?
i guess to answer your question; it all just depends on the individual... could be: for an escape; for a bit of fun; to try something new; to relax or to get high; peer pressure; or just simply because they enjoy the experience it brings. - there are probably countless, shit loads of reasons tbh.
Well said.
Bravo.
I would never take drugs.
I don't have a problem with anyone else doing it - each to their own, innit?
you might wanna rephrase that.
Now that's a dubious implication!
Why wouldn't you take drugs, out of interest? For someone so interested in philosophy and religion, psychedelics should be right up your street.
Life is about experiencing new things. You should experience what you can in the time you are given. Would you rather die rather die regretting the things you did or regret the the things you didn't do?
So I presume you never touch caffiene or alcohol or chocolate?
Yeah, seriously. Caffiene can cause you heart failure just like coke, and caffiene is also harsh on your stomach, which can lead to VERY painful ulcers (I have one, so I would freaking know), etc. Coffee is addictive and stains your teeth, as does simply smoking cigarettes. Alcohol is the most likely form of intoxication to make you violent. Excess of sweets can lead to diabetes, obesity, heart attacks. Yet when it comes time for the blame game these things are conveniently overlooked and our attention is diverted to a handful of morons who died from misusing x...
Fucking hypocrites! It's the same damn thing, yet these anti-drug extremist fuckers look down on us like we're somehow weak or inferior as they guzzle their pots of morning coffee, pump up on steroids, and have weekend-long binge drinking parties...
