Anybody here like to cook? Or looking for cheap meals to make?

Let's start a cookbook thread here (especially useful for students), putting in the recipie for your favourite dishes. :)

Dish name - Sel's bollock mix (serves 2, or 1 fat person)
Ingredients

1 small bunch of spring onions
1 onion
1/2 a leek
Some mushrooms
1 can of chopped tomato's
1 can of corned beef

Instructions

Chop up the greens and try them in a pan without butter or oil for around a minute, or until they're done and put them in a big ass pan.

Chop up the mushrooms, fry them with or without butter and then throw them in.

Open the tomato's and corned beef, throw them in the big ass pan.

Stir and wait until it cooks. :yum:

You can use any meat or something like quorn in this dish.

Anybody else got any cheap cooking tips?

here's one (not copy paste, i can assure you):

    Bún riêu :

There are two Bún Riêu variant – The original one and the new variant. The original one is a noodle soup with tomatoes, and chicken or pork. The problem with this food course is that one ingredient can only be bought in Asia – a special crab paste.

    The ingredients are as following:

    · Rieu crab paste. This is the ingredient that hinders foreigners cooking this – and there is not a lot of export.
    · 3 cut tomatoes.
    · 200g of pork
    · 3 eggs.
    · R 2-3 red onions cut.
    · 3-5 spring onion stalks, cut into pieces.
    · One Coriander if you wish to make the course more unique.
    · One lime.
    · Some salt and pepper
    · 250 g of Vermicelli – which you will have left in hot water for 30 seconds
    · 2 tablespoons of cooking oil

    Instructions:

    1. Mix the rieu crab paste, the ground pork and the eggs together.
    2. Fetch a saucepan and use it to heat the cooking oil.
    3. Sprinkle the tomatoes and the finely cut red onions into the saucepan and stir them about for approximately one minute.
    4. Add 3-5 bowls of water and heat it until it reaches the boiling point.
    5. Use the mixture –rien, the ground pork and the eggs – and pour it into the water bowl. Again, wait until it starts to boil.
    6. Get the salt and pepper because this you will add after you have turned down the heat.
    7. The soup that is ready will be pured into the bowls of water . accompanies with vernicilli. You can add some spring onion, the coriander and salad. Again, it is optional, but it might be a good idea to add some chili for that famous ‘spicy taste.

The Do And Dont's Of (Super Noodles BBQ Flavor)

    Do's

    Get a saucepan
Hot boiling water (Roughly enough to cover noodles)
    Leave to simmer on hob
take out and enjoy the BBQ Flavor.

If you did the following you will have a satisfactory meal and still have made it on time not to miss the start of hollyoaks...

    Don'ts!!!

    Get saucepan with no handle!
Not too much boiling hot water!
Don't leave the noodles to burn on the ass of the saucepan with no handle!
try not to leave them beside bed and fall asleep!

If you did the follow you get burnt fingers a bloody hard job trying to get the burnt noodles of the saucepan and a plate thats no longer fit for serving food on.

Oh My Youth Was So Fun!

One of my favourites. Good with baked beans.

Something my sister cooks at home on a regualr basis is Game Pie. I don't know her recipie but I've nicked this out the book she often cooks from.

    Ingredients
650 mixed game meat such as pheasant, duck, hare and rabbit, boned
250g venison steak cut into 2.5cm cubes
    2 tbsp sunflower oil
2 red onions, peeled and sliced
120g smoked streaky bacon, derinded and chopped
1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed
    30g plain flour
    1 bay leaf
    1 orange, zest and juice
    1 tbsp redcurrant jelly
    300ml pint chicken stock
    300ml pint red wine
    340g puff pastry
    Salt and pepper

    Method
    1. Heat a tablespoon of the oil and brown the game and venison in batches until well browned. Keep on one side.
    2. Heat the rest of the oil and cook the onions for five minutes until starting to soften. Add the garlic, bacon and mushrooms and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
    3. Stir in the flour and cook for two minutes. Season well and stir in the bay leaf, orange zest and juice, redcurrant jelly, stock and wine.
    4. Bring to the boil, add the meat and simmer gently for 40-50 minutes until the meat is tender. Cool.
    5. Heat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
    6. Put the meat mixture in a pie dish. Roll out the pastry to make a lid and attach to the dish. Decorate with the pastry trimmings and cut a steam hole in the centre. Glaze with beaten egg.
    7. Bake for 20 minutes and then reduce the heat to 180C/350F/Gas 4 for 30 minutes until the pastry is golden and risen and the filling is piping hot.

    Veggie rice stuff.
    1. Cook some American Long Grain rice in a saucepan with a bit more water than you would normally use
    2. Chop up some pepper and red onion into cm size pieces and put in a wok/biggish frying pan
    3. Chop some garlic and put in the same pan, then turn the heat on, you can add some oil of you like but not too much
    4. Add some sweetcorn and dried herbs to the pan, and then cook all this (keep stirring it or it will stick and burn) until the rice has 3 or 4 mins to go.
    5. Add frozen peas into the rice
    6. When the peas and rice are cooked, drain them and then mix with the veg.
    7. Add soy sauce and stir till the rice is brownish
    8. Stir in a spoon of mayonnaise to bind it all
    9. Eat.

    Yum. I live on this!

    Leek and cheese potato :yum:
    What you need
    - 1 potato
    - 1/2 Leek
    - Cheese
    - Milk

    How to cook
Slice potato (don't peel it, all the vitamins are under the skin) and boil in a pan until they're soft.

Saute some leek in a hot pan, put it to one side.

Once the potato is done mash it and add a splash of milk to make it creamy.

Grate some cheese in and add leek.

Keep in the pan and heat until the cheese is melted. :)

    Stir fry

    Any crunchy veg you have
    Oil
    Five Spice
    Soy Sauce

Fry veg in a tiny bit of oil, add five spice and soy and stir, serve. Great if you need to have dinner in about 10 minutes, and versatile as you can put meat/fish/tofu with it too.
