Who would have thought a xenophobic git like him would say anything like that?
He really is a horrible little man isn't he. I cannot beleive people like him were ever allowed in government.

"In the 1980s he questioned the loyalty of immigrants who backed the cricket teams in their countries of origin.
Now he says if he had been heeded it might have stopped the London bombings."

The crickest test was stupid, yes, but he had a valid point. If you are looking back not forwards then there will be problems. Do you disagree with that?
However, his comments about the "cricket test" are interesting and worth a debate
Surely it's just the same as being a life long Halifax Town fan living in Halifax and then moving to Stevenage and still supporting Halifax? When Halifax come to Stevenage to play you go sit in the away supporters end, because Halifax are your team.
Surely if you follow the logic through then 90% of Man U fans should suffer the same scorn?
most of us had a go at the CRE i believe too
changing your sporting allegiances wouldnt have prevented anything, its a dis illusioned 3rd generation youth whom arent seen as british but nor are they seen as pakistani - and iraq did't help
Don't say that to MoK!!!!
To an extent I agree with you, even as a United fan living in the south. Hence why I said debate...
I wasn't being aggresive . Just pondering the analogy. It's only something i learnt about a few weeks back when someone mentioned it on another thread!
Haha.
So, my Dad, now living in England, has to suport an English football team, he can't support Rangers anymore?
Damn. Is he gonig to be pissed.
Well he shouldnt be supporting then anyway
CHOMEONTHEBHOYS
No realy I remember the cricket test and at the time it was seen as nasty racism, but there is logic to it.
Speaking perasonally when a british person of indian or pakoistani descent wants India or pakistan to win it dosnt bother me.
But what realy pisses me off is when those of forign descent want england to lose a black friend of mine in London wanted England to lose the Football AGAINST GERMANY, I managed to restrain my self he was a good friend all I said was "fuck your black politics" he looked a little offended but didnt say anything, but we went to the shop to get some beer and he got the asian shopkeepers to agree they also wanted england to lose.
A few months after this he came round when england were playing the rugby, he saw it on TV and realised it was england, I said Dont say anything, he just laughed and said he wasnt realy bothered, I think another black friend of his may have told him its a bad idea to tell white people you want england to lose.
He was of granadian descent now if it had been cricket and he wanted granada to win I wouldnt have had a problem if fact I would have enjoyed the rivelry, (except I hate cricket)
Afraid not dude, that would mean he hasn't intergrated properly.
I think you're arguing a different point here.
The test being that if India / Pakistan / wheoever was playing England, who would they support?
Not...
They want England to lose regardless of who England are playing.
N
Cricket - I support England which is alright as the only person when I was younger who even knew anything about Cricket was my Dad (who's Scottish and supported England as well).
Football support Northern Ireland and then whoever is playing England (excellent recent result by the way).
So I'm alright for the Cricket Test, but may be in slight problems if it was a football or Rugby test :thumb:
Tebbits analogy was stupid because it assumes that people can't have dual loyalties. Most first and second generation immigrants will have a degree of loyalty to their original country as well as their new one. It isn't just Pakistani Moslems who have this dual loyalty but Brits who emmigrated to Australia and Italians who emmigrated to the USA
Why on earth would you actively support the team opposing England?
Also, as soon as you get past first generation immigrants then surely England would be their country.
me neither but ...i lived through 18 fucking years of them!
and still there are people who look back fondly!!!!!!!
"I do think had my comments been acted on those attacks would have been less likely. What I was saying about the so-called cricket test is that it was a test of whether a community has integrated. If a community was looking back at where it had come from instead of looking forward with the people to whom they had come to then there is going to be a problem sooner or later.
Now I don't think that problem is all one-sided. Just imagine if you are a young, British born, Muslim man in one of our inner cities like Bradford. Your school, where you are most likely to rub shoulders with ethnic English people, is failing. They are scarcely teaching spoken English to the English, they are not teaching anything of the history of this country, they are not telling youngsters why we have established democracies right across the world, they are not telling them of the literature and the art and the music that has been created in this country. So that young Muslim man has learnt nothing of the good side of this country.
What he knows is that on satellite television there are pornographic channels that are grossly offensive to the morals he's been raised with, if he goes out on a Saturday night on the town he sees drunken yobs urinating and vomiting in the streets, he knows white girls are easy from his school because they are having children at 13 and 14. What is there for him to want to integrate with?
So we have got offer him something that is worth integrating with and in return he's got to understand that the Muslim religion is so unreformed since it was created that nowhere in the Muslim world has there been any real advance in science, or art or literature, or technology in the last 500 years ago.
Half a millennium ago Islam and Christendom were level pegging but now we've leapt ahead in all material terms, but the Muslim world would say we have fallen down in all spiritual and moral terms. We have to accept our share of the blame and they have to accept theirs."
He asks so many questions. Why is the education system failing to teach the languages and history of this country? Why has Islam not integrated? Why has the culture of this country gone completely downhill? Why is our politically correct left-wing establishment in complete denial?
The only reason Renzo is upset is that Lord Tebbit has told the truth.

This isn't actually true though is it?
This is absurdly simplistic - Islam is not one monolithic group think entity (well no more than any other religion). Some Muslims are perfectly well integrated.
Care to expand on this? What specifically do you mean?
Left wing establishment? What planet are you on?
And on what evidence do you base this? What part of the national curriculum can you point to?
Glad you admit it.
Binge drinking has always been a part of British culture. Gin Lane for instance.
So has pornography/prostitution. There used to be a lane in London called Gropecunt Lane a few hundred years ago. Guess what happened there?
Sex being used to sell everything? A product of capitalism, another wonderful British invention.
How isn't it? We have a capitalist economic system. Its hardly left wing is it?
The cricket test isn't as racist or bigoted as people like to imply. For someone to settle somewhere properly there has to be some sort of allegiance to the new country, some attempt to live in Rome and do as the Romans do. I don't think that is an unfair thing to say. Aladdin's previous comments about the English in Spain would certainly back up the rationale behind the "cricket test".
Bit late but youve exactly proved and covered my point, what Im staying that the clasic cricket test is a bit of bollox, my alternative version is as long as you dont want england to lose every game,
I remember the 98 worldcup when england got knocked out in the majority asisn area I was staying at the time in near Ilford, about 20 asian lads were running chearing in the street the moment the final whistle was blown, needless to say I stayed in side and didnt confrunt them, Im not that brave or hard.
I haven't proved whatever your point is at all.
You originally said that you thought there was logic to the "Cricket Test". I pointed out that the cricket test whilst not necessarily being racist, was utterly redundant. You then went on to talk about people supporting whoever is currently opposing England, which i pointed out was nothing to do with the "Cricket Test" at all.
The cricket test says you should support england over the team of your racial/cultural heritige, I say you should support england (preferable all the time) as long as its not playing your team of ethnic cultural descent.
This is not "nothing to to with it" its a reinterpritation of the cricket test,
People can support whoever the hell they want at whatever sport.
I know plenty of white English people who like to see the England Rugby team lose simply because they have a grudge against rugby. What some people are saying is that if this people were from ethnic minorities this would be some kind of problem, but because they are white it isn't?
I myself always support the other team when SWcotland play, and plenty of Scots do likewise with England, is that a problem?
I think that is the problem with the tes, but not the rationale behind it.
I for one would fail the cricket test.
Most such people dont want england to lose, there just not bothered, Iv met plenty of peoplewho dont care, would these white people that you talk about watch the match and chear on any teams thats not englend.
Do you know one white person of british descent who likes a particular sportm Rugby, football and watches matches, and who wants england ~(or scotland where ever they live ) to lose no matter who their playing,
Dont think so I think you know a few anti sporting types who dont morraly apreachate patriotism, who dont watch matches and when there told england lose they say dont care or in some way there glad as they dont like football supporters.
Not the same thing as delibratly and activaly trying to disacioate yoursefelf froma countly, that is one of the best in tearms of freedom and standard of life in the world.
