I've tried it with scissors and stuff, I mean it looked good, but does anyone else have any better clear instructions?
I've heard cheese graitors work well.
*edit* I just did a pair last night

So after a few tries, I think I finally got it.
How do these look?

do it outside, though, or you make one hell of a mess.
'cause then there'll be other people with the same style. he probably wants an individual pair that he can customise to his own taste.
If I buy the same non ripped model, I save 30 bucks a pair.
I'm not getting the direction that I sand still.
Do i sand sideways? as in the pant leg if I'm holding them up, goes to the floor and i sand horizontally?
The scissor method made too clean of cuts. I did it to some American Eagle jeans before and now I have to fix it.
You posted this while I was typing another response.
Now Abercrombie and Fitch also has the jeans with red/yellow paint that represents ketchup and mustard stains.
They also have some ones with super big blue ink stains.
I mean I could see the bleached look but not the previous two.
it doesn't really matter, but i guess if you want tears across your legs, you'd go more side to side sanding than up and down. if you just want distressed patches, then any direction will do, but go lightly at first.
and i'm really not getting the paint splattered/dirty/stained look. ripped jeans looks pretty cool in a cute scruffy kind of way, but the others just make you look either like a painter/decorator, or a dirty bugger. not good looks.
I'm a guy though so I don't usually care, but I'd never buy the stupid mustard ones for sure.
The best pair of ripped jeans I have was one that ripped naturally. Both back pockets are basically falling off, and there are a few big rips in the front, a few in the knees, and a few in the lower legs.
So after a few tries, I think I finally got it.

Decent rips too not just little efforts heh :-)
If hollister and abercrombie ship internationally you could check them out. Hollister is cheaper.
Just a word of warning though, if you rip your jeans your self they will fall apart after a while!
I know, I took a picture of how I did them last night.
They only have the said rips around my knee because i fell over.
But I have found that wet sand help to fade and wear the denim well.
slideing down sand slope wears butt well.
And yeah this thread is really old.
