Hi
I've got a blue budgie and when I first got it the bit above the beak was bright blue so I assumed it was a male. Hoever a few weeks ago the bright blue bit changed colour and is now a deep brown. Any idea what this could mean?

I've just typed 'Sexing Budgies' into google (at my own risk obviously!) and found a page.
I think you have a female - merely because of the last sentance :
Sexing a young budgie is not easy. With an adult bird, you should check the colour of the waxy cere (the bare wax-like patch) around the nostrils. An adult male bird will show a blue cere; and a female will show a brown one. With a youngster, the male's cere is pink and the female's is bluish-white. If the sex of your bird matters to you, buy from an experienced breeder who will be able to sex the bird for you.
So the starting bluey colour maybe just mean young female - hope that helps?

adult male = blue cere
adult female = brown cere
young male= pink cere
young female= bluish
self explanatory really, the bird had a blue bit which made u think it was male when in fact the cere changes colour as the bird matures.

I was thinking exactly that
If it lays eggs then I reckon it's definately a female.
Don't worry, I had a male and a female in together for years, they don't tend to mate unless they have a nesting box.
Y'know, you might just be right there
