  Betting tax used to exist I think but they got rid of it because with the popularity of the internet it was crippling the gambling industry in Britain. (To avoid betting tax many people simply placed their bets with bookies located offshore, some of the UK bookies like Willhill operated offshore as well to avoid the tax).
