i reckon theyre being run into ground to gain suport for the privitisation like what was done with national rail
privitisation would kil rural communities as companies would only operate in busy profitable areas

Royal Mail used to be so efficient so why the sudden inefficiency?
Railways seem to be the only exception but then again maybe if they spent a bit on them when they were nationalised we wouldn’t be in the state we’re in now.
i swear someones putting a spanner in the works to speed up privitisation cause it used to be fantastic, and well to almost all people it is, ive only ever got one thing late
Royal Mail should be privatised. DHL, UPS or other companies should be able to post letters.
Why can't private firms post in rural areas? If people are willing to pay for delivery, then why shouldn't firms post in rural areas?
BA was something that can have effective competition and doesnt make anyone worse off
BT have got better with competition, but again to all intensive purposes, that could work
with electricity, we had brownouts last year in london due to lack of investment in infrastructure
with gas i cant argue as i dont have any evidence from either side
with water, theres no chance for effective competition, being in london we stuck with thames water (did you know a french company owns half the worlds water companies!) so being private or public makes no real difference
and we all know what happened with railways, but to be fair, that has been underfunded for 4 genrations now
private companies will go where the business is, and this will mean they wont service rural communities as they are unprofitable, so therefore it should be publically owned, the service used to be good, its only cause the govnerment and postcomm are running it into ground to gain support for privitisation
if it works dont fix it, or in royal mails case, be made partially private as it was a few years back, and that stupid renaming of them too
The mail sorters in the warehouses are on minimal wages and frankly they couldnt really care about the post. Virtually all of it does go to the destination but the warehouse where I worked processed something stupid like 10m a day. There are bound to be problems.
The problem with the post office is that you have all the restrictions of it being public (price fixing and such) but they are supposed to compete like a private business.
It should be kept in public hands, second class should be only allowed for parcels and business letters and a stamp should go up a penny.
They are improving, lets just give it time.
A word of warning though, make sure you rap parcels up with LOTS of bubble rap, I've seen what happens.
BA couldn't piss about since it has many good quality direct competitors.
British Gas also have a few competitors so they couldn't piss about.
The railways and the water companies on the other hand enjoy monopolies- if you don't like their service there is bugger all you can do in most cases, since they are the only people offering the service. The railways debacle has been the single most disgraceful and appalling move ever made by a political party in the history of Britain, and something for which the Tories deserved to be remembered in infamy for all eternity.
Fewer things to go wrong with water supply, but again privatisation has been a small disaster. Since they've been privatised (i.e. taken over by companies which one and only goal is to make the maximum amount of profits possible) the leaks have increased and maintenance has dropped dramatically (because it costs money to replace pipes doesn't it, so let the old ones stay and leak happily). There have also been some outrageous rate proposals by the greedy bastards, and if they had it their way it'd be cheaper for us to fill our baths with Perrier than to use tap water.
Royal Mail is a monopoly. The single worst thing that could happen to it is to be privatised. Yet another company being given a green card to rape the service and maximise profit at the expense of rural customers and non-cost effective routes.
Fuck privatisation.
Privitasation works when there is true competitive market. BA for example. BP as well, railways don't work because it's supported by the public, it's not a competitive market.
Water works, electicity and gas all work. Royal mail needs to move toward this competitive market, which does exist, (City-link, TNT) instead of being controlled by government. It's either capitalism or it's not and it won't work properly until it moves from the middle zone it's in now.
electricity has worked at expense of investment
then theres BNFL and its lovely history
royal mail was great as it was, its jsut its some point in between private and public but should be public as non cost effective routes will be cut off thus leaving rural areas screwed
its not something lots of people choose to use, its all they have to use, like with railways and majority of customers being commuters who need it
Perhaps if there were three or four different companies competing for the same route in a viable way, privatisation could have worked. But long suffering commuters don't have that option. They are captive customers forced to take the first train that pulls into the station- since usually any other trains would also be run by the same company!
In the case of Royal Mail, there isn't an effective competition when it comes to the delivery of letters. TNT, UPS etc provide very good shipping options for packages or consignments. But no company could offer a daily letter delivery service similar to Royal Mail's.
bring on capitalism!
it worked as it was before when it was fully public, and made a profit, why would it need to be private, as we had cheap and reliable post all over the country
be pragmatic here
