I always think that children should have a long formal name, and a shortened common name. A name like Elizxabeth, for instance, is very good- Elizabeth when formality is required, but Liz, Bess, Ellie or Beth when it isn't. I don't like it where children have shortened names as their only name- I detest the rise of Ellie as a proper name, it should only be the shortened version of Eleanor/Elinor or Elizabeth.
Boy = Eden
Girl = Lee or Shir
Caoimhe (keeva) for girl
I'm a sucker for Irish names, as my own would suggest anyway.
As true as that is, you try telling that to a 5 year old.
A girl would be Billy Joel (because she'd be an uptown girl, and it rolls of the tongue.)
Or perhaps I'll think about it in fifteen years' time when I actually plan on having kids.
a fine choice
but be aware that you will be sentencing her to a lifetime of 'no, with a K. no, it's e..r..i.n..e.'
yes, i agree. or they can choose just to go by the long version.
i won't be giving my kids 'special' names. my kids will be special enough without. they'll have nice names, probably be named after people in the family who've meant a lot to me, but no offspring of mine will be an 'apple' or a 'pear'.
if i have a daughter, i want her to be eleanor mary, after my grandma and mum. my son was going to be william, after my grandad, but my brother pinched it for his son. I also liked Orla, after a girl i used to know way back when, but mr. kaff's sister has named her new baby that.
oh dear
this is the main reason why we have chosen katherine and alexander. they have the longer, formal name and they can also choose how they are known to their peers. however, i do like the unabbreviated names too.
My mate has got a little boy called Joshua John on the birth certificate. But at school and home he's J J. I cant stand that, why not just call him J J on the birth certificate and from the start??
Probably, but he's 5, so to him his name is JJ. I can remember when she first had him, and she loved the name Joshua, but then when he was about 1, she said its JJ Well she didnt say "his name is JJ now" but she and her fella called him JJ, so everyone did! I just think its wierd:crazyeyes
REad my post again. That's your answer.
Quin: for a boy
Brook: for a girl or boy.
Dont know if I'd call them that though.
No. No. No. No. No.
How about Scotch Mist? It has a little bit of both of you, though perhaps naming a child after a screen name is a little bit silly.
its a possibility i suppose .....
i, sadly, laughed extremely loud at that and dave came over to see what the commotion was
if they had twin girls, they could call them misty and missy.
oh yes.
and just hope they didn't develop lisps.
keep the ideas rolling. we may use them if we have 17 children and run out of name ideas
something like that ...
if i ever have a little girl she's gonna have to have my middle names hence the arwen rhiannon....and if they get teased, well everyone will be about something. i have been teased about my name all my life.
Would it be unreasonable/mean to say that's in the top ten stupidest name suggestions in the world ever?
And another fine attention seeking post. :thumb:
I like Millie/Holly/Eleanor/Enid for a girl, and Nathan/Aidan/Benji for a wee boy.
thats my little cousins name. if she wasnt called millie then i would probably have liked that better as a name for my children.
I love that name, it's so sweet. Unless they go through a mad grunger/mosher type phase when they're 13 - 17 then they're well fooked.
I like that.
I quite like Lee as a boy's middle name and Leigh as a girl's middle name
girls- Aimee Leigh, Keira Leigh
boys- Jamie Lee, Joshua Lee
My name is Leanne but I prefer to be called Lea.
Thinking about it, Cherry would be nice for a girls second name (definitely not first name!) - is one of those "family connection" type of names but too complicated to explain!
don't you think it has the hint of US trailer park to it?
'bobby-lee gets you ass in dis yards before i keels yooo'
