As for what it's like; nice country with lots of scenery unlike any other. A lot of films are set there, especially fantasy ones. The Lord of the Rings is a good example.
The bay of islands wasn't as impressive as I had imagined. To be honest, there wasn't really anything special about it and the beach wasn't nice. We stayed in a really nice backpackers hostel though so it made up for it! Nightlife was a little lame, with karaoke being the main event, but it was a laugh at least. The weather wasn't too good either, but we had a few days of sun.
The south of NZ is apparently much more beautiful (lord of the rings setting). I think if I ever got the chance to go again, I would definitely go south.
It is cheaper to live out there, but not substantially so. The exchange rate is about 3 NZ dollars to the pound I think, and I'd say in general things are about 25% cheaper there than England.
Desperately want to visit there because i really think I would like to live there later in life.
Fantastic.. We have one of the most diverse multi-cultural countries in the world, there is a population of about 3 million (and 1 including me) spread throughout the two islands, although more than a third of this nation's population reside in Auckland City. In The North Island, we have Auckland City, Rotorua, Hamilton and our capital Wellington - amongst others. The south island comprises of Christchurch, Dunedin plus others.
No matter where you are in the country, a beach is never far away, an estimated 96% of NZers live no further than 40kms from the nearest and there are some beauties. We have some fantastic surf beaches as well, including Piha (http://www.piha.co.nz).
Our climate is almost sub-tropical - most days in the summer being mid-twenties, but we get more rainfall than the UK - however we get sudden downpours as apposed to that week long drizzle you guys get. You can literally get seven seasons in one day here. As we're on the southern hemisphere our summers are from November to around March with those being the warmest months. Temperatures never really drop below 12C during the day even in winter, night-times they fall down to 2-3c or so and you really feel it cause this country has yet to discover the benefits of central heating/double glazing.
Auckland City (http://www.aucklandnz.com - known as the City of Sails) is about the size of Los Angeles, and its exceptionally spread out - and our public transport system is shite, so you'll need a car. The CBD is pretty cool, thats where you can go visit the sky tower (which you can see pretty much from anywhere in auckland). Auckland boasts three harbours, two mountain ranges, 48 volcanic cones (non-active) and more than 50 islands.
As for lifestyle, its a lot slower than the UK, people here have a very "she'll be right"/"No Worries" type attitude about a lot of things, forget the exchange rates mentioned because if you want to live here you'll be earning a hell of a lot less than the UK, so things balance out. Food over here is exceptional, we have an amazing number of asian folk and any food you can think of it cheap as chips (I eat out literally every day and the huge meals are like 3 pounds).
Nicest places to live in Auckland City (IMO) - Remurea, Mission Bay, Howick, Three Kings, Titirangi, Waiheke Island

I couldn't disagree more - especially as I work in the dance scene over here week on week, shame you didn't have someone to show you around as to where the parties are.. Nightlife here is fantastic, for the drinkers you have the Viaduct in the America's Cup Village.. theres endless number of bars/clubs for you to go in that cater for all tastes. For the clubbers, we have numerous clubs and events on every weekend. Just to give you an idea, last few months we've had Ben Stevens/Paul Glazby, Judge Jules, DJ Lange, Oceanlab, Tiesto, Pete Tong etc. over and thats just in Auckland, this weekend we have DJ Jupe and next weekend we have Steve Hill - as well as numerous other events with locals. There are internationals from all over the world here on a weekly basis.
