New Community Points System

Hey everyone, we’ve put this points system together which has been approved by our Community Connectors team to make things clearer and fairer for everyone who uses our Community. This is something we have done before, and it worked really well to make sure everyone stays within our Community Guidelines. This is about keeping our space safe and supportive for everyone who uses it. We hope this helps you understand what kind of behaviour might lead to a break or timeout, and how long those points last. Our Community team always consider each situation carefully and with understanding. The main aim is to help everyone feel comfortable here, not to make anyone feel judged. There may be occasions when you will get points- that can happen but we want this to be a way of helping you to work with us to make our Community a positive place.

We will start using the point system from a week today, which is Monday 3rd November.

If you have any questions pop them down below, send us an email to community@mhiuk.org or DM @TheMix.

Misusing DMs (for reasons outside of guidelines)

Vagueposting about another member

what’s the maximum amount of points you can get before action being taken, and in that case, what action is taken?

are we allowed to like criticise the community but not in a malicious way? i feel like in order to make this community better we sometimes need to put in criticisms that are not meant to attack any of the moderators or the staff.
@toffuna101 Hi Toffuna, yes definitely! We do want to hear your feedback and really welcome you to be able to let us know things you think can be improved as long as they are not maliciously targeting someone or The Mix, such as swearing directed at someone, spamming with criticisms, etc. You can also directly give feedback to the Community Team by DMing or emailing us at community@mhiuk.org or by using our feedback form, which is completely anonymous if people would rather pass things along like that
And we’re not allowed to talk about enforced breaks? So if our friend disappears, they can’t even say why.
Sometimes people get accused of vague posting when they aren’t.

I get the idea, but some of these things can happen by accident and there’s so much censoring
@AnonymousToe Thank you for your feedback, as you mentioned, mistakes happen and we totally understand that. We expect almost everyone to have some amount of points, as the point system is more to highlight where someone might have gone wrong at the lower levels, which is why they get regularly wiped/expire. We hope that by adapting our old points system with the help of the Community Connectors, it will allow the Community to have guidance in a way that feels safe and productive. In terms of mentioning breaks whether enforced or not, there is a lot of context which not everyone might have behind these discussions and decisions, and thus discussing this publicly on the boards or in chat might not be the most productive space for it, which is why we ask for these discussions to be kept to private spaces

@River and @AnonymousToe You can read more about the use of DMs in the DMs section of the Guidelines. But to summarise, it means using DMs with @TheMix shouldn't be used to seek 1-to-1 support as our DM space is not set up for that or the appropriate space. As we are a Community service, we cannot provide 1-to-1 support. DMs with @TheMix should only be used to assess risk, for community members to raise concerns or questions to the staff team, and to report tech issues. As DMs are no longer available between Community members anymore, this point specifically refers to how DMs are being used to the Community Team

@mai Very good question, so once your account reaches 30 points, you will be put on a temporary break from using the boards and/or chat. The points expire after the times listed above too, and you can contact the team to ask for how many points you are on if you need clarification, and you would be contacted if you ever get points to explain why
