Routine

RedemptionRedemption Community Connector Posts: 4,914 The Mix Elder
I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed with routine lately and I’ve realised how much routine means to me because when it gets disrupted, it throws everything off. Yesterday I planned to join the watch party but the day changed and it broke my routine. Even though it was my choice to go, it still left me feeling anxious and unsettled. I’ve been overthinking everything, feeling lonely and worn out, and even things like seeing someone unexpected at home can throw me off. I take ashwagandha regularly which usually helps a bit but lately it hasn’t done much because I think I’m just too overwhelmed. My sleep has been poor too, waking early and unable to drift back off, stuck staring at my phone in the dark. I don’t want to go into everything but I’ve been struggling with something I said at the community meeting as well and I keep replaying it in my head. What really made me reflect on all this was hearing that Paul Scholes’ son struggles with routine due to autism and while I’m not saying it’s the exactly the same, it made me realise maybe Im a bit like that, Ive been realising how much routine changes can affect me. I feel completely overwhelmed with everything going on in my life too

hey @Redemption - hope you're feeling at least a little better this morning/today

The way you describe how your feeling sounds super challenging, but I also reckon is something a lot of people will relate to. Having that sense of routine in life often helps us feel in control and prepared, and when things change, it can definitely throw us off. I know i've had days where the routine or plan I had for the day was essentially thrown out the window, and navigating these barriers to get us back on track can take more energy out of us - so those feelings of being tired and overwhelmed make complete sense.

While I know it's easier said than done, it may help to focus on the things you have more influence over. Sometimes changes and disruption can come out of nowhere and there isn't much we can do to stop them - so sometimes the best approach can often be the most simplest. Even if it's just to take a moment to pause and go 'okay this has happened and it's changed my routine - how can i get back on track'. Making small steps to build are confidence in overcoming these disruptions will hopefully help in the future, and make it easier.

However it is a process and journey to do, it may not happen over night. What's truly important is that each day you're getting up and giving it your best shot. That's all anyone can ask for. Remember we are all here for you if you need to get more things off your chest and your feelings are completely valid.
