hey🙂

soo i’ve been unwell for like 2 ish weeks now and im only getting worse as time goes on, i woke up this morning to my ear being sore, the pain is unbearable right now:( so i ended up going down to chemist to see what they advise - i was told to contact out of hours gp.

i phoned out of hours gp, was told about the super longggg wait time for a call back from a doctor / nurse and then put netflix on expecting it to be hours and hours away as i was advised, well not even 5 mins later they called me back?!!! the nurse i spoke to ended up saying she’ll get me an appointment to be seen by a gp this evening then said “aw there aren’t any appointments available, but i’m going to call my supervisor and try my best to get you an appointment so i will call you back shortly”, i was stressing that she wouldn’t be able to get me one but she just called back to say she managed to get me one for 7pm this evening, i am so so relieved - what a queen that nurse is for actually trying to get me an appointment!!

i’m just kinda anxious now as they are obviously a busy service, several people phoning them - this service covers the nhsct which serves around 479,000 people and they only operate out of 2 hospitals - so it’s like why was i called back so soon & given an appointment? i’m just worried now that it might be something bad?

@shannon_164 It might be, possibly, but it's also possible you spoke to really lovely nurse. Possibly a cancelled slot or something. I think that's the most likely situation, as the doctor wouldn't have had time to review all your records, details etc etc. But it's completely understandable why you would feel scared and worried about it. You're a brave person though Shannon, and i'm wishing you the best of luck with the appointment.

    Hey @shannon_164

I'm really glad that the nurse took you seriously and has managed to get you seen quickly, I think that shows how much she cared and wanted to help you.

I completely understand why you are feeling anxious, getting seen quickly when you were expecting a long wait can make you think of worst-case scenarios but it's best to try and not assume the worst, sometimes it might just be a bit of good timing and a bit of luck with the nurse you spoke to 😊.

It's really positive that you are being seen tonight and hopefully will get you the help you deserve, and you did the right thing by reaching out!

Take care and good luck with the appointment! <3

@shannon_164 , ah I'm so pleased to hear that you've got an appointment for this evening! I really hope that goes well and that you get answers!

That makes sense though that a part of you feels suspicious about why you have gotten an appointment quickly when you expected to wait longer. I wonder if you could share those worries with the doctor when you do see them and hopefully they can reassure you.

We're all here for you, Shannon. I hope the pain you're in subsides soon.

Hey @shannon_164, I can completely get why you feel anxious about the appointment, it's likely it was just by chance that an appointment came up - hopefully being seen soon will help relieve some anxiety for you!
I'm really hoping your appointment goes well and the pain goes away soon. Take care of yourself <3

ppl dont always need advice. sometimes all they rly need is a hand to hold. an ear to listen. and a heart to understand them. 🧸

i’ve just got to the hospital now, i’m really glad there is just one other person in the waiting room atm because i hate crowded places - one of the doctors that is on tonight i have seen before and he was really helpful so i hope that i get him!!

soo update, i ended up getting my usual gp lol as soon as he walked out i thought “no way” but to be fair, he was actually quite helpful in comparison to my experience with him at the doctors just so that’s good! he confirmed that it is an ear infection and that my body has likely been fighting infections for the past couple of weeks now with being unwell anyways so has prescribed me medication now so hopefully that works!

it’s taken me literally 40 minutes to take 10mls of it, how embarrassing hahaha i think my plan going forward is to mix it into smoothies to help disguise the taste of the actual medicine because that was a painful experience haha

@shannon_164 Hey, I'm so glad to hear you've been prescribed something to help and you've found out what the problem is! I feel for you though, it can taste gross! :s That sounds like a good idea to mix it with a smoothie though!
How are you feeling today? I hope you'll feel better soon <3
