I can’t control my intense emotions, how do I gain control?

bignosegirly0bignosegirly0 Posts: 50 Boards Initiate
For context, I’m autistic and my biggest struggles is my emotional hypersensitivity (mainly to rejection/bullying) and lack of ability to control my emotions

When I’m at my worst state, I will likely lash out at others or break down crying, sometimes during times that aren’t suitable.

I’ve tried many methods that hasn’t worked, due to the fact that my mind races and no distraction will stop my negative thinking

This includes:
•meditation
•breathing methods
•gratitude
•five sense method
•counting down method

Or just any mindfulness method

I don’t know what to do. I avoid most social situations to prevent lashing out at others

Please help if possible

Hey @bignosegirly0 thanks so much for sharing with us, I can hear how difficult this must be for you and how it affects your to day to day social life. We're here for you <3 It must be so frustrating that the methods you've mentioned don't seem to stop your negative thinking - I can understand how distressing that must be. I wonder if you recognise any patterns or any triggers in social situations that tend to lead to your hypersensitivity? Perhaps by understanding this better, it may help you to find ways of coping <3 Keep us updated, we're here to listen
