Heya...
Wanted to maje a post/thread how those neurodiverse find, deal with Christmas?
I have autism and the decs are a sensory nightmare, lights songs etc..all overwhelming confusing! Simple decs are slightky easier, but eveb then sometimes tinsel, trees, static lights isnt easy. Refuse to go out at times, hard trying to work in midst of decs causing overload. I also hate the changes associated everything like changes, shuts down. The expectation to be happy when inside I'm crumbling!
Anyone else relatr.

I remember being in college one year and we had a Christmas fair, and they had a local radio station come in to play Christmas music all day but what they did was instead of playing it a nice and comfortable level they decided to blast those tunes at max level. I nearly almost went deaf because of the sound. I had to tell my one to one and she even agreed with me that the music was too loud and that a lot of the neurodiverse students had the same issue like me that day. I even picked up the wrong chocolate in the coffee shop because I coulden't hear clearly and I gave that hot chocolate to my friend who cant have chocolate but he seemed ok in the end.
Also, the changes that happen during this season can be quite scary and triggering can't they?. I tend to find finding things I can do in this season that I find calming can help reduce those feelings. Though it is valid to be having these feelings because Christmas is a busy time. I noticed you mentioned about feeling the constant need of having to feel happiness when you feel your crumbling inside and I totally understand this myself. Being happy is a super hard thing to mantain throughout this month and it's ok to not feel merry or in the Christmas spirit because it is hard to keep feeling happy. Sometimes we got to acknowledge that we don't feel great and that's ok.
