Worrying

TheNightmareTheNightmare Posts: 2,428 Boards Champion
I worry a lot about my future whether I’ll ever get a job. I’ve been struggling for so long and haven’t had much luck so far with jobs, which only adds to my worries. I keep thinking about everything that could go wrong, like what if I finally get a job but then get fired, or if I never find one at all. I wonder if I’ll be able to afford everything and if I’ll always face financial issues. On top of that, I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to shake this low mood. I know I keep posting, none of the support or replies or anything here goes unnoticed but these struggles and worries are repetitive, I worry everyday about it all.

I can understand your anxieties Nightmare, especially when I imagine it feels like there's so much pressure on this part of your life - on getting a job like you've wanted for so long.

I wonder: have you ever sat down with someone to look at your CV, to properly think about what jobs you want to apply for and how to write the applications, and to get a second opinion on everything? I wonder if some external validation would help.

You could even do that here if you wanted - we have plenty of folks here who either have jobs or who are looking for work too, and they might be able to workshop your CV or an application with you if you felt comfortable posting about it (obvs with any sensitive info removed!)
On top of that, I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to shake this low mood.
Hmmm do you have a sense of whether the low mood is because you can't find a job, or if you're struggling to get work because of your low mood / mental health?
All behaviour is a need trying to be met.
    The truth resists simplicity.

@JustV it is really tough at times. I have had someone look at my cv, I had a cv company, they saw it and basically tried to make it better and my work coach made it better too. Also it sounds like something I could look at doing it here, how would I do do it? External validation might help. Also it is like low mood because I don't have a job and I'm struggling with it a bit. It's not like my low mood is making me not work, I think getting into work would really help with this low mood. Also Im not sure if you seen my other thread but I posted that I was starting a placement until friday so Im currently doing that for this week, its like abit of course work and getting me prepared for an interview, no garantee but I could get a job at the end of it. I just still worry because I cant rely on getting this job and due to to setbacks Im just negative and worry worse case scenario about things, I have previously worried then setbacks just made me so negative about everything. Its good Im doing this though, it just shows Im definately trying to get into work, Im not just letting the previous negative experiences hold me back from taking these opportunities,
they were mentioning today to be positive but it's hard with everything else thats been going on. I do think Ill be fine though. Thanks a lot for your reply and everything though mate. I saw you're going to be finishing off here too, it's really sad to see but I wish you the best.

From reading your post quite a few times today I actually saw myself in you as this is something I am also struggling with right now too. I know how hard employment is at the moment for young people and it sounds like you are trying your hardest to get into employment. It can be also a challenge to get the motivation to keep trying as well despite having rejections and not finding the right company to work at. I understand how this must be making you feel right now and I hope everything gets sorted out eventually for you :frown:. As @JustV mentioned it may be a good idea to ask for feedback on your CV from peers because then you can collate feedback from different people to see how your CV is looking at the moment. I also know sometimes and this is what I tend to do when I apply for jobs (and say I dont get offered the role) I tend to email the company or recruitment office to ask if they can provide feedback so I can improve on my applications in the near future. I know not all companies may be able to have the resources to provide feedback but its worth a shot at doing though. Also, I am always here too if you ever want some help or advice on getting into employment or even a fresh pair of eyes to read over your cv's or cover letter's, im more than happy to lend a hand and help you on your journey.

I also hear that it has been impacting your moods and having an effect on your day to day life and its totally normally to be overthinking about getting or finding work at the moment. It definitely has a major impact on us too because we can often feel bad about not being in work and it can cause a lot of emotional inflictions upon us. It also sounds like your work coach has also been helping you recently which is good to here (work coaches are good at giving feedback on cv's and stuff as well). I also wish you the best for you work placement too as I hope it goes well and fingers crossed it may lead to a permanent position at that company as well <3. If not it's still good experience and is good to put on your cv at the end of the day as experience is normally what most employers look for in candidates applications.

I hope you are doing okay right now <3

@Amy22 Thanks so much for your kind message – it really means a lot. It's reassuring to know I’m not alone in this struggle, and your suggestions about asking for feedback on my CV and from companies are really helpful. I’ll give those a try. You’re right; it’s tough on mental health, and sometimes self-doubt creeps in, but hearing from someone who gets it makes a big difference.

Thanks again for your support. Sending digital hugs back to you too

I think in general there may be a big percentage of young people at the moment who are currently struggling to get into employment right now because stuff having with our new goverment and cost cuts etc. So always remember and I know that it can be at times quite isolating for us because we feel like we are the only ones struggling which we are but that there are lots of people in the same boat as well. It can be hard as well when you see others too getting jobs I find and that can add to that worrying factor as well. Aw no worries I am glad to help you out anytime, it's a good shout actually because you never know the companies may be able to offer more support and guidance as well as feedback on your applications. Again, I am always here too if you want to send over you cv and get some feedback on it as well. I noticed that you have been doing a work placement at the moment and I hope that it is going well, it sounds like its been good so far. I just wanted to ask how are you feeling at the moment about your work placement?. It sounds good so far as well and hopefully you have been able to meet other people as well there. I hope your doing ok right now <3.

    Sending hugs,

    Amy
