Feeling worried about summer clothes?

Summer can be a really stress inducing time if we don't feel entirely comfortable in our bodies. Summer clothes often show off more of our body than we are used to in the winter months and there can be pressure around having the 'right' clothes for summertime events, like holidays or festivals. Feeling self-conscious might stop us from wearing certain clothes or even cause us to retreat and miss out on certain activities.

We might feel anxious about getting our bodies out because of anxiety surrounding our weight or the way our bodies appear. Maybe we think our thighs are too big for shorts, our arms are too skinny for vests, or our tummies are too lumpy for swimwear. We might also struggle with being unable to cover SH scars and worry people may see or comment on them.

It sounds clichรฉ but it's important to remember that human beings are diverse, and our bodies reflect that. We don't all look the same and that is wonderful! However, feeling confident in ourselves is a process and it is valid for you to go at your own pace and wear what feels comfortable. The same goes for whether you cover your SH scars or not. This will always be a personal choice and depends on where you are in your journey.

5 tips for feeling as confident as possible
  1. If you're experimenting with new types of clothes, find a few items that reflect your personal style and limits and invest wisely, rather than buying what everyone else is wearing.
  2. If you're opting for cover ups, look around for linen, cotton and silk as these can be more breathable. If these are too expensive, keep an eye out for second hand options.
  3. Start slow by wearing clothes you feel less confident in around people you feel secure with. This may help to normalise it in your mind first!
  4. Remember festivals and holidays are one-time events and you will probably feel more confident if you stick to your personal style, rather than buying into a micro trend!
  5. If swimwear is a trigger for you, you could bring a light cover-up to wear in-between swims and spend the time shopping around to find a type of swimsuit that makes you feel confident.

    I completely agree with this

Wear what makes you comfortable and confident - for me I don't really like wearing shorts, but finding options that fit my style such as light trousers has been a game changer in summer.

It's all about what makes you happy, confident and comfortable :3
