Is car salesman a good goal for me?

TheNightmareTheNightmare Posts: 2,144 Boards Champion
I've been considering a career as a car salesman, perhaps not immediately but in the future, given my strong interest and decent knowledge of cars. However, my family doesn't think it's a good idea and lectured me about it. They believe I should gain experience in jobs dealing with the public first, to develop the necessary skills. They mentioned that sales skills are typically something people develop from a young age, around 12 or 13. I feel a bit uncertain and silly now, having thought about this career path for some time. While my family isn't outright preventing me, I believe they would strongly discourage me if I pursued it.

@TheNightmare I think personally it's a great goal! I'm sorry to hear your family don't seem to be supportive of it, but if you think it's the right pathway and decision for you, you should definitely go ahead with it. You won't know how things go if you don't try it out so I think if it's something you're interested in and you have relevant knowledge you should go for it!

I also say go for it - if its something on your mind and something you believe you'd be good at and have the knowledge for, then go for it. It doesn't matter what age you start 'learning the skills' as they may say. Skills can be learned at any age. If you truly want to give it ago, then do it.

If it works out then great, and if it doesn't thats perfectly okay too. Just do what you would enjoy and make you happy :3

@TheNightmare I agree with what others are saying above! If you feel like this career is something you'd like to explore further then there's no harm in that :) You seem to have a lot of knowledge in this particular field as well that I'm sure would be beneficial.

Keep us posted with how things are going - I'd be interested to hear how you get on.
