Hi @ellie2000, This definitely varies for everyone but I think the aim of distraction techniques is to find something which can bring your focus elsewhere and help to quieten those thoughts. Whilst something might work for one person, this won't always work for someone else. So if you're looking for things to take you away from difficult thoughts for a while, make sure to do what feels right for you :)

People typically use different types of distractions like physical ones (going for a walk to clear your head; yoga; spending time with pets), creative ones (playing/making music; journalling; cooking), doing productive things (making to-do lists; reading; shopping), or soothing ones (taking a long shower/bath; watching your favourite TV show/film; breathing techniques).

I definitely use a couple of these - music, spending time with my cat, watching my favourite shows.

I do think it's worth saying that it's perfectly normal to have worries and sometimes it is important for us to feel those emotions so we can understand ourselves better. Self-care is super important to mention here too, as when you're feeling down or anxious about things, it can be helpful to look after yourself and do things you enjoy.

You mention worrying about whether you're going to be happy. Do you want to share any more about if that's something you're feeling? <3
