Hey @Past User, thank you for sharing this with us <3

There is absolutely nothing wrong with focusing on yourself at all, especially when your mental health has gotten worse. Yes, it's a bit selfish, but selfishness isn't always a bad thing. As humans, we definitely need to take care of our physical and mental wellbeing from time to time.

Altruism is great. Oftentimes we get a nice feeling inside after knowing that we've helped someone. But being too altruistic can make us feel stressed, overwhelmed and drained. Putting others above yourself, and giving too much for others can have detrimental effects to us.

I feel like we've been led to think this way since society praises those who partake in a lot of selfless acts and paints those who are selfish as bad people, when in reality, achieving a balance of healthy selfishness and healthy altruism is important - even though it can be imperfect at times and difficult to achieve. Both yourself and others can benefit greatly from this

I hope this helps, and please don't feel guilty for the self-care you deserve.

    Kai <3

Hi @Past User I'm sorry to hear that you have relapsed lately because of a recent argument. To answer your question though about being selfish. Eventhough looking after ourselves may be viewed as selfish, it is not. It's important that we too look after ourselves just like others. Don't be afraid to do something that you enjoy or helps you. I also agree with what @kaii said, as sometimes we need to take a break from helping others. Eventhough what you do is good and amazing, make sure that you are having time for yourself or practising self care, as sometimes when we help others or put them first, it can be draining for our own health.

Don't be afraid to look after yourself now and then, there is nothing bad about doing self care. As our body's and minds need time to reset.

    Hope you are feeling okay,

    Sending hugs,

    Amy22 ♥

Hey @Past User, i second what both @Amy22 and @kaii have said earlier about how focusing on yourself should not be considered selfish. You are your own individual and as such you have needs and feelings that should be taken care of, this has a big impact on your general wellbeing. Taking time for yourself is an act of self-care.
I'm sorry you've been going through a lot and I'm hearing that this has really negatively impacted your mental health. It is incredibly brave of you to speak up about your feelings and it's good that you're trying to take them into account and taking care of yourself. It's also good that you're thinking about your mental health in the long term (how you might be feeling around Christmas and how helping others will impact you in the long run).
I just want to remind you of the services we provide at the mix and the ones that can be of help in case of relapse or crisis
