A research agency named Revealing Reality has released new research into nude image sharing among young people. Thought it might be interesting to share / discuss here.
Here are the key stats:
And some other interesting themes:
Does this resonate with you folks? Anything here seem surprising or particularly relatable?
A personal reflection from me: not much overt LGBTQAI+ representation here, and some of the language is quite heteronormative. Not sure if this was talked about more in the full study (I haven't read it) but would be interesting to see whether there was any variance in LGBTQAI+ communities.
Here are the key stats:
- The poll surveyed 5,000 teenagers
- More than half of those aged 14-18 have been sent a nude image
- 1 in 3 girls said they were first asked for a nude before the age of 14
- 1 in 4 guys who had sent a nude did so before the age of 14
- 82% of people said they typically used Snapchat to send them
And some other interesting themes:
- Guys said they send nude images because they think girls will like them and because they want that person to send pictures back to them in return
- Girls are more likely to share nudes because they feel a pressure to do, but feel 'disgusted' when sent images they don't want to recieve
- Most participants said girls were more likely to be shamed if these images were leaked
- Girls (especially girls from disadvantaged backgrounds) generally have the most negative experiences

All behaviour is a need trying to be met.
The truth resists simplicity.
