Firework Self Care Tips

Emma_Emma_ Community Manager Posts: 601 Incredible Poster
Its got to that time of year - the nights are dark and things are getting cosy. Spooky season is over and the christmas lights are ready to come out <3

But its also the time of year when fireworks become a nightly sound effect!
Even though they look pretty in the sky, fireworks can really be stressful for us and our pets  :s

This thread is here to share some of our best self care tips or best way to deal with fireworks (for us or our pets!).

I used to make my dog a little den with blankets that he could hide in! Thinking of making a human sized one for me this year  :p

Sounds really basic but I find closing the blinds / curtains really helps me zone out. The flash as well as the sound can be quite stressful but with the tv on and curtains closed it does make it better!

I tend to find something I enjoy watching or a program that requires focus because I tend to zone out what's going on around me..crime documentaries are good for that!
I also sometimes use headphones to watch things (use laptop to watch), like above post, closing the blinds or curtains can help

    That's some really great ideas @GreenTea & @Lucy307

I agree, sometimes putting on headphones masks the sound better than just playing it out loud, I have a playlist of chilled music that helps me stay calm :)

I also try to light some candles or use a difuser to distract myself with smell and block out noise that way!

I like to snuggle up with a warm blanket in bed snd with Louie my dog , just having him with me reminds me that I’m safe and we both look after each other
Sometimes all you need is one person to believe in you , for you to begin to believe in yourself.

Our dogs really hate fireworks though I think that's pretty common. We had fireworks going on VERY close to our house on Wednesday and it was very upsetting for them. We had to just comfort them for most of the night and keep a close eye on them, the poor things! :(

My dog really doesn't like them either :( it got sooo bad last year that he was even scared of the mircowave beeping!
We normally build him a den to hid in, with lots of treats and have calm music playing to try and keep him chill. Nothing can take his mind away from chesse  :p
