Coping with stress

Former MemberFormer Member ☕🌻☕Posts: 12,938 Born on Earth, Raised by The Mix
Hi all.

So I have a lot of personal stresses going on at the moment that are really affecting me, my work life and social life. . I turn to self harm as a way of coping with stress but it isn't healthy and I need to stop. I find it really hard to talk about these stresses.
I'm looking for advice on coping with stress? If possible, I've never really coped well under stress

    Hey @GreenTea

Sending lots of hugs, we're here for you. Sorry to hear things are causing you lots of stress at the minute.

Have you tried writing everything down? Sometimes writing things down can help you get things out of your head

Do keep reaching out for support on here, we care about you

    Hey @GreenTea

Stress is such a hard one to tackle but I think I might be able to help😃

. Alwayyyyssss talk about it or use a default stress busting activities that are healthy. When things are too stressful to deal with I find it helpful to try a step down approach like watching animal videos or going for a super fast walk. Then I return that it is that I needed to do whilst sticking to light duties

. Make a routine! I love setting myself tasks for the day

.Have funnnn, do things that you enjoy to help unwind. I've recently gotten into mine craft beleive it not. Video-games are a great way to escape

. Bake!!! I love me some cake and making it for other people too 😎

    Hey @GreenTea

One thing that really helps me switch off is colouring - there's some great adult colouring books in the shops at the moment or you can print off some templates from the internet. I usually do it with a podcast in the background and I totally zone out (it also makes me quite tired and sends me to sleep).

Or maybe you could start reading a fictional book - I love the Harry Potter because it transports me to Hogwarts and makes me forget where I am sometimes.

    Sending you hugs x

    Hi @GreenTea

Firstly I wanted to say well done for reaching out and seeking support with this. It seems you have recognised the way stress is affecting you and have recognised that you may need alternative ways to cope with the stress, which is a really strong thing to do

I think the replies above have offered some great tips, I hope they can help you in some way. I'm wondering if you have heard of The Mix's tool called 'Stressheads' before? It's a little tool to help with stress relief and can share some great advice along the way - it may be worth checking out

I also found two articles which could be helpful.  One is by 'mind' and is a guide to managing stress. The other is by 'childline' and offers alternative coping techniques instead of self harm.

I really hope these help in some way, it would be good to hear how you get on. Best of luck with everything

Thank you.. I've looked at the articles before! They are helpful.

I completely forgot about stressheads! Thank you for reminding me!

I seem to fall into unsafe behaviours when stress gets too much, like at the moment, I'm trying so hard to remain strong but it's really challenging

    Hey @GreenTea

Sorry to hear you’ve got a lot of stress going on at the moment.

Two things that work really well for me are
    - Going out for a walk or run to just get some fresh air and the exercise definitely does me good. Sometimes I’ll put headphones in and listen to a good podcast and try and get a bit lost.
    - Funny videos on YouTube. I know that’s really basic but if you can escape the worry for a while by laughing and smiling then that’s good.

Try not to put too much pressure on yourself 💜💜 hope you find something that works for you to help relieve how you’re feeling.

    Thought id share this

“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley

    Hi @GreenTea

Pleased to hear you found some of those resources helpful  And that the closure of your work has taken a pressure off you. Perhaps this time off could be a good time for relaxing and healing for a lot of us! Take good care, and remember we are always here if you need us
