Is masturbation considered a sin??

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 37 Boards Initiate
Hi all,
I'm Catholic and was wondering as I heard someone say masturbating was a sin. Is that true?
Thanks,

I am not religious. & hardly kno anything about religion. But i do not see anything sin ful about mastubating. We all have sexual desires and fulfilling them in some way is healthy and taking care of ourselves/what God created.
“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley

Similar to Shaunie, I'm not religious but I don't think there's anything wrong with it, it's a completely natural and healthy thing to do :)

Hey @Past User - I'm a Catholic too! I think the church is in a process of modernising and coming more up to date so I really wouldn't worry! Religion shouldn't be something you worry about having to obey, it's a loving interaction between this world and other world with someone who wants the best for you. Religion is about love, not punishment. Take care! 😃

    Hi @Past User :)

You'll probably hear a lot of conflicting information about this from the Church, your parents etc but given that Catholics are divided on a lot of other major issues i.e. homosexuality, I think I'd be right in thinking that it comes down to personal choice. Personally, I think masturbation is healthy both physically and psychologically. It isn't dangerous or hurting anyone.

@htwohig2412 is right that the Church is evolving, and that at the end of the day 'sin' is between you and God. I find it hard to believe that He would punish you for something that is proven to be beneficial for your brain and self image.

It's only considered a sin by SOME people who believe in an imaginary man in the sky. If you like it then do it. Your body. Your rules.
