Would you like to help by sharing your experiences of the mix?

Hey guys.
College asked me if I would like to do a PowerPoint on my involvement with the mix and alongside this we're going to be putting up posters and campaigns.

I was wondering if you old like to get involved?  Maybe say some things ng so you like about it or how it's helped? It can all be anon so nobody knows it was you.

I've spoken to @The Mix
About it and got their approval for going ahead :)

If you have any questions or concerns do let me xo and don't feel you have to take part :)

    Happy to help 😊
Sometimes all you need is one person to believe in you , for you to begin to believe in yourself.

    Awe thanks @Millie2787 !
The actual presentation is gonna be super scary haha looking forward to the posters part lol

At the moment we're just thinking of little mini snippits like maybe saying what you're favourite thing is (boards or chat) why you love or how they've helped or things for others x

That sounds wonderful, I'd be happy to help. The mix has provided me with a safe place to share my deepest fears or weirdest thoughts. Sometimes when I say things to my friends or family they're quick to dismiss it or not give it any interest, so the mix is refreshing for me

“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley

I've been an active member for 18 years. I've seen the community here help hundreds if not thousands of people with personal issue. The biggest advantage of this place is it's anonymity. Not only does this allow people to be more comfortable in being candid about their problems, it allows people to talk to people from social groups that they wouldn't normally associate with.

That's interesting @Skive , I assume that means that we don't get thrown out when we turn 26 then? Definitely agree about the anonymity aspect too. I think that lets people reach out for help who might otherwise be too scared to for fear of people in real life finding out about it.

I joined when I was 19. There used to be many older members. At least one retired. Nowadays there aren't as many people using the boards which is a bit of shame.

Interesting... I wonder what led to the drop in numbers? I thought it was only 11-25s but it's nice that there's a broader age range to share different experiences.

I think there was a drop after the new software came out, old accounts got deleted unless you used it a month before x It's always been a bit of a hidden gem though not many people have heard of it

Eager to let more people Know about it so this will really Help guys thanks! :) co

I think Facebook and Twitter had a lot to do with it. Back in the early 00's this place was just as much about socialising as it was for advice with regular meetups and the Anything Goes and Politics board weree absolutely buzzing. There were site couples, marriages, births and deaths.

Now this place is much more focused on the advice side of things, but that's not to say it's bad thing.

That's interesting @Skive. It sounds like the landscape of the site has changed a lot.

Another thing I would say Laine is that I really like the group chat function on the Mix. I've tried other support sites before but I've never come across one with live chat on before and it really does make you feel more immediately supported and much less lonely when you're able to connect with others in real time like that. I think it's a really good feature and having moderators in it as well makes it feel nice and safe too.
