Tell us what you think about trans rights

So the government are doing a consultation on the Gender Recognition Act - the key piece of law that allows people to change the gender they are assigned at birth. This was last updated in 2004 and so there is a lot that could be updated to reflect a more modern understanding of gender. We are really keen to share young people's views on this, and so we have put together a short form for people to share some thoughts.

We would like anyone that is affected by this law, to share your thoughts. You could be:
  • Someone who is transgender, or questioning your gender identity
  • A friend, relative or partner of someone questioning their gender or who is transgender
If you want to share your thoughts, you can fill in our survey here.

Have a great weekend!

    Hey @Aidan,

    This is a good question.

The Government has been clear that the proposals outlined within this document have the aim of reforming the Gender Recognition Act (2004). When it comes to safe spaces, prisons, changing rooms and such, those transitioning will still be protected under the Equality Act (2010), which isn't going to be changing. :) As a result, we are focusing our responses on those young people who are personally transitioning and those close to them, who will be directly affected by the GRA.

Not sure how well I explained that - does that make sense?

No worries @Aidan - I didn't fully get it at first either. Legislation is a complex thing.

Just giving this a bump, last chance to share your thoughts. Remember, if you know someone who is trans or non-binary, you can still add your thoughts too :3
