Do you think that people assume that people with accents are less intelligent?

I had a lecture at university today, which discussed native and non-native speaking and its relation to prejudice. We learned about so many differences between people who are native speakers and are not and how other people perceive them, without necessarily realising. People may be so against stereotyping groups of people, but still can be influenced by their knowledge of certain stereotypes.
