I am 21, living at home with 8 relatives (parents and siblings), cramped and overcrowded. No freedom, indpendence or privacy. Work 5 hours a week and have no income, not signed on to any benefit at all either. What options do I have re housing?

    Your best bet is ask at Citizens Advice. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk They have volunteer professionals who will help.

    I honestly don't know unless you could consider further education, whereby you might be entitled to some social benefits though would need to apply.

    What you really need here, however, is someone older and who has specialist knowledge on how to help you. Like one of the staff

    Thank you so much. I hope so too.

    Housing and Living environment is just one of the struggles I have :(

    I asked aunty for advice. She said could you increase your work hours? Ideally, working 16 hours a week would enable your employer to pay your National Insurance and you pay a small percentage out of your wage to make up the difference. Aunty says when NI contributions mount up, then you could receive state benefits or some such. She also asks would you consider further education? The benefits of that means you also get the chance to get out of the house, go to your place of learning. Also, register at your town's library though you will need ID for that. Free books = free education, and study is a privilege.

    Hello again,

    I have tried increasing work hours but due to my mental health and 2 weekly appointments (DBT programme), this is made harder. I would not sign on to anything either, I just couldn't.

    In terms of further education, I have done that for 5 years and feel that it's quite enough for me, at this given moment in time.

    I was employed in a place for 3-4 years but felt I had no choice but to hand in my notice a few months back. I am working but only 5 hours a week and, as I say, I'm in receipt of no benefits or other forms of income at all.
