Katie Hopkins and being overweight

So before we start discussing, let’s remember the ground rules.

1. Do not share weight, clothing size, BMI or weight goals (numbers)
2. Respect others opinions
3. Do not use any hate speech, bully or upset others.
4. Try to be respectful when giving opinions.

Lets go.

So I know it’s very old news but I recently saw it on YouTube again and it brought back the same feelings.

For those who don’t know. Katie Hopkins is very critical when it comes to peoples weight. From saying the she wouldn’t employ someone over weight to criticising people for their weight (saying it’s their own fault and that they are lazy ect.)

She obviously has a very strong veiw on it and a few years back tried to prove her point by gaining a lot of weight and then going back to her normal size very quickly. She also stated that you can’t be happy and over weight.

this is one of many things that sparked a lot of conflict.

I am not a fan of hers and I do disagree with her veiw on this for a few reasons. I remember seeing her on the “this morning” programme and some of the things said really hurt.

I don’t see how my weight effects how I should be seen and treated. I work, I socialise, I try my hardest with things and guess what I’m happy! I’m the exact opposite of what she says I am.

When she was blaming people for their weight she didn’t acknowledge the struggles people face in trying to better themselves. Ok she proved that people can loose weight. But she wasn’t very supportive and as she was previously in good habits it would have been easier for her to return back to her old self.

I don’t particularly like the way she did this as I thought it was more of a arrogant act than helpful motivation.

I was struggling to loose anything myself so I am working with a nurse at my doctors. She has been very supportive when I’ve achieved towards what I’m aiming for and even when I’ve fallen slightly. Had she said to me some of the comments Katie made I would have probably walked out and never returned. For her to say you can’t be happy and overweight is very offensive I’m as happy now as I was when I was my original weight and my only reason for loosing a bit is because I want to be a little healthier not because someone says I should or tells me that I must be unhappy.

Had she been more supportive in the documentary then prehaps I might have seen her in a different light but she was arragont with most of her comments as one point even said that she “hated fat people for making her do it”

I thought about the thread just because it did upset me a little bit but more annoyed me for her to assume people are unhappy.

I’ll leave you with these lines

Love yourself
Be who you want to be not what others want you to be
Don’t let people get you down

Any comments, veiws and ideas are welcome

    Hey Emma,

Firstly, it's so good you've pointed out the thread guidelines, it's great that you're so respectful of them! Secondly, I completely agree with you. Unfortunately there are so many different personalities out there, it can be very difficult to stay calm when the more controversial ones are all over the media! As you have already mentioned, it's important to stay true to yourself and love yourself regardless of what size, shape, height, colour you are!

    Have a great day!
