What does a hearing therapist do?

There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on google.
I have been referred to one of these. I'm mildly deaf in one ear; but not enough for it to impact on my life. (I can't say I noticed it, if I'm honest) My problem is, my hearing is far too sensitive. It's not overly unusual for you to say something to me and me to have to think what you've just said because my brain just can't process the noise. Audiology tried to convince me this is completely normal, despite some sounds being painful and ENT have told me the problem isn't my ears and is in fact auditory processing disorder, which is how the brain processes noise.

If you have a look at this website(if you haven't come across it already)then there is information on there about what a hearing therapist does and how they work.
It's good that further support is being put in place for you.
