Christmas Shopping

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I love christmas time, but all of my friends are talking about getting each other loads of presents this year. Which is made more annoying as I don't work and don't have very much money. Not only that, I have completely no idea what to get any of them, well I had a few ideas, but if I get something for a few people I've really got to get everyone else something.

So does anyone else have any cheapish ideas for good all round presents? Or any general opinions of christmas coming up?

    Excellent idea Lipsy.
My brother and I, when we're skint, have a couple of times agreed to just get a card (best/worst depending upon your opinion), and the funniest thing we can find for a quid. :)

In the past, my friends and I used to arrange a 'secret santa' system where we put everyone's names in a hat, then everyone picked one out and had to buy just that person a present. It worked well because you got a decent present, no little tacky things, and you didn't have to buy everyone something.

Otherwise, just give cards and cheap but thoughtful presents - Christmas isn't about how much money you spend, it's just about giving and good cheer :D

I hate Christmas, but then I'm not Christian, I'm pagan and will be celebrating Yule. However, it means a lot to my family to at least make an effort so I'll get them presents.

It would be hypocritical of me to worship Christmas.

    Presents aren't important to me.

Christmas is about being with family and loved ones.

I refuse to do anything Christmassy before December comes, i.e. when advent starts. It just ruins the atmosphere, especially when you walk into shops in October and they're playing christmas carols already - its just so commercialised. It destroys the special spirit of Christmas that one used to feel.

I wish I could trademark that phrase. I think it has truly become 'stating the bleedin' obvious.' I fear I may hear it 9875 times between now and xmas.

Ladon, it doesn`t matter a bit how much a present cost, it`s the thought that went into it. Sometimes the little things you get are almost the best of all if you know what I mean.

i think Secret Santas are the best idea, thats what happened last year, but this year everyone wants to buy stuff for their individual little friends. So its apparently not happening. Which is great for me, it means I dont have to buy anybody at school anything.

And Christmas Shopping is the worst phrase in the world when you work in a pwerfume shop. Everyone decides its a good idea to buy perfume and aftershave for christmas. Which I dont think it is :|

it's hypocritical for most people to celebrate christmas. get used to it. most christmas celebrations are secular anyway, so i don't really see your problem with it.

Nice to see you again  Shame I have to ruin the wb by telling you that being 14 is not wicked in any way, shape or form. Apart from the girls and the freedom. Or maybe that was the point :chin:

I dont buy christmas presents for friends. Ive just told them not to get me anything as i couldnt afford to buy for friends. to be honest, most of them seemed relieved as they cant afford it either. I just stick to family - Thats expensive enough as it is.

    Especially when you have kids!

The woman next door to me has 15 grandchildren, and she buys something for them all.
