When you meet someone for the first time and need to make small talk ... what sort of things do you talk about?

The recent weather seems to be one that comes up a lot ... what else is good??

    i just talk about random stuff that comes into my head, as long as its not weird!!

    i find alcohol helps the small talk run smoothly though ;)

    I have issues with distinguishing between what is random and what is just plain weird, so often end up sounding mad!

    I sit there and go "so then...*looks around for something to talk about*" and I do it loads. :| Esp on the phoen to someone for the first time or something.

    I'm in the same situation. I know everybody else goes out to clubs to pull, but I find it very difficult to start a conversation when a) I don't know anyone and b) the music is too loud to hear what they are saying anyway.

    The only time I'm likely to start small talk is if I'm queueing. When the conversation normally goes like:

    Me: "Isn't this a long queue?"

    Stranger: "Er, yes." (stranger shuffles off).
