Basically, the Conservatives have proposed devolving control of police forces from central government to either directly elected mayors or elected "sherriffs". This will give people more of a say over the running of policing locally.

As for the £50 million a day, it sounds about right. The labour government has been extremely wasteful, increasing taxes, and pouring money into wasteful public services without reforming them.

Indeed the Tories are the party of "law and order".

This is probably why they gave three cheers to a convicted killer. Perhaps he will stand as Sherriff in the future?

Hmm, lets look at what the Tories want to do to reform on of those services.

"Patient Passport" - a catchy phrase for sure, another juicy soundbite. Effectively this would entitle you to buy your care anywhere, including privately with the NHS stumping up a fixed amount per procedure. Sounds good doesn't it?

    But hang on.

There is a group of people who currently pay for their operations themselves anyway. They make no draw on the NHS choosing to use their insurance (or savings) to fund themselves. What this means is that they will be able to get a subsidy from the NHS, and let's face it that's exactly what they will do. An additional cost which will have to be met from somewhere...

There are other problems too with this system, but they are complicated and relate to hospital finance and staffing, but I don't want to get too deeply into that.

education and schools ...schools were so underfunded that they were running out of books ...the rain was coming through leaking roofs ...they were encouraged to sell off sports fields!
public services ...what a laugh! at least labour have some ideals and ideas ...some vision. you can't fix these things overnight.
IDS ...words, very weakly put across words ...the guy is a joke!
words without substance. bullshit cut taxes and improve everything in site at the same time!
