Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has warned Britain and the United States that their descendants living in the country will be "the first to die" if the two countries launch an attack, a newspaper said yesterday.

"They will never attempt to do here what they did in Iraq because it is their children who will be the first to die," the Daily News on Sunday quoted Mugabe as telling a rally two weeks ago.

The rally, held shortly before a visit to southern Africa by US President George Bush, was one of several at which Mugabe issued stern warnings to Britain and the United States.

State media did not report the threat, which was made in Mugabe's Shona language, but the Daily News on Sunday claimed it had a recording.

Zimbabwe's white minority has dwindled to around 50 000 from some 200 000 before political tensions began some three years ago.

Many whites, along with about two million blacks, have left because of the economic and political fallout of the Zimbabwean government's controversial land reform programme in which it has taken over white-owned commercial farms for redistribution among new black farmers. . . .

    How did whites in Rhodesia find themselves in this position in the first place again? Oh yes, the UK demanded that Zimbabwe become a "democracy" after it declared its independence, thus subordinating white Rhodesians to the mob rule of a people with an average IQ of 66, yes that is actually below the level of MENTAL RETARDATION. How can anyone suggest that Zimbabwe's white minority would be unsafe governed by a country of RETARDS? We must not judge anyone by the colour of their skin but by "tha contenta of tha characta!" After all, its not the people themselves that matters, the RETARDS, despite all the evidence that suggests the notion that all human beings are equal is utterly false, but the mystical form of government known as "democracy" which is responsible for all progress. Pressure from anti-racist groups, and this is of key importance, ultimately led to the UN imposing the sanctions on Zimbabwe which ultimately led to its collapse into the Mugabe regime we have all come to love and know today.
    The UK annexed Southern Rhodesia from the South Africa Company in 1923. A 1961 constitution was formulated that favored whites in power. In 1965 the government unilaterally declared its independence, but the UK did not recognize the act and demanded more complete voting rights for the black African majority in the country (then called Rhodesia). UN sanctions and a guerrilla uprising finally led to free elections in 1979 and independence (as Zimbabwe) in 1980. Robert MUGABE, the nation's first prime minister, has been the country's only ruler (as president since 1987) and has dominated the country's political system since independence. His chaotic land redistribution campaign begun in 2000 caused an exodus of white farmers, crippled the economy, and ushered in widespread shortages of basic commodities. Ignoring international condemnation, MUGABE rigged the 2002 presidential election to ensure his reelection. Opposition and labor groups launched general strikes in 2003 to pressure MUGABE to retire early; security forces continued their brutal repression of regime opponents.
