well, after the pressure feeling in my head and numbness down the left side of my body, my doctor has referred me to a neurologist - the doc did reflex tests among others and found nothing wrong, and the only thing she seemed worried about woz the fact the i mentioned that brain tumour is my main worry wen she asked "wot is goin on in ur head rite now?".

so, can u plz tell me exactly wot a neurologist will do? i havent a clue...

p.s - im worrying like hell, even though i am not properly ill in the slightest. for gods sake its annoying - i dont wanna worry and tell myself not to - but still do!!!

At a guess because I am not 100% sure he will basically ask you whats been going on. Do some basic checks like your doc did like reflex's etc and maybe do a brain scan.
Your going to see a top guy here, so no need to worry. If there is something wrong they will find it and sort it out.
I know its easier said than done about worrying but really now you have been referred to the people who are specialists in this field then surely thats the best way to ease your worry.

    good luck :)

i don't mean to sound harsh, but my auntie had to wait 4 weeks for a brain scan AFTER she was hospitalised for the 2nd time, with some fairly scary symptoms.

why did she have to wait so long? because of people who didn't really need the scans insisting that they have them and clogging up the waiting lists.

if a doctor can't figure out what is wrong with someone then the patient has every right to see a specialist who can do further tests. don't blame the people who need more help, blame the lack of resources.

hey i agree with u in a way that people with advanced symptoms shud take priority, but if u take the attitude of not going coz gthere r ppl with worse symptoms, then things wudnt b caught early ever, and more ppl wud die.

my point (not phrased very well, admittedly) was that you shouldn't complain about the waiting lists.

if you must have a brain scan, fine, but expect to wait.

Your GP will arange a metting with a neurologist and he'll ask you a few questions on how your feeling and do a few tests like checking your relexes etc. The same day you'll have an ECG, chest x-ray and a few blood tests done and if all is well your be asked to see the neurologist again is 6 months time for a second metting which he'll then ask how your feeling and ask if you still wanna go ahead with a scan. If you do still want a scan you'll have to wait a futher 3 months untill you get one. So in all you'll wait around a year as your a non-urgant paitent and you'll pay about £350 ish for the MRI. I have mine due in November.

Depending on what they think you might get one sooner but if they think it's nothing to worry about you'll be waiting a fair while.
