Sounds nasty! I've heard of a barium meal, and an enema, but not a barium enema.

Which is something I would say about most diagnostic tests.

Glad you came through things alright, have a feeling you already have enough to cope with already.

So, *puts on NHS Modernisation hat* what was the service like?

thanks freak and man of kent. your not a bad bloke really are you man of kent? ;) and yeah i am glad because it means i can focus my energy on getting through other stuff!
as for the service, it was great! didnt think i would be saying that about getting my bum fiddled with, he he! the staff were so nice and made me feel as comfortable as possible. one lady in particular, i dont know if she was a nurse or a radiographer or what but she was lovely. she was with me the whole time. she explained the whole thing asked me how i was feeling. she was just lovely and made the whole thing easier. she even went as far as seeking out a digestive biscuit for me since im diabetic and hadnt eaten that day. i think she thought that a pale look on my face was a result of low sugar levels, it wasnt, it was the shock of the whole process :crazyeyes . but like i said it was only umcomfortable, no pain and its put my mind at rest :)

as well as it could. one beef though with the nhs, i was meant to wait til the end of july for my results  . that would have been a 6 week wait!!!
the results were meant to go to my gp in 5 to 8 days and 2 weeks later they were still not there. then i get a letter to go back to the colorectal clinic, BIG PANIC FROM ME :crazyeyes . ii thought that meant something was wrong with me. on phoning up i get the specialists receptionist and she tells me that he wants to give me the results and see how ivee been, thats just the way he does it. but 6 weeks to wait to see him! i contacted my gp who asked for the results to be sent to him. why couldnt they send a letter to say it was clear or pick up the phone, it would have taken 2 seconds. i know if something was wrong you wouldnt want to be told via letter but if its clear then where is the harm especially if it means not worrying for weeks or months about results? but apart from that ....
most of the experience ive had with the nhs has been good, especially with the retinopathy, i was diagnosed on the tuesday and at he specialists getting laser treatment on the thursday. thats good service!
    FINISHED

I think that you have answered that one yourself. Who wants bad news in the post? Hell, we will even get complaints if it is good news!

There is also something referred to a Caldicott. This was a report looking into confidentiality and how the NHS passes on information. If we follow that report correctly we cannot ring you with such information, and letters can be a problem too, but I won't go into too much detail because it's a big issue.

Surprised at the suggested wait for results though, was this an investigation for cancer (if you don't mind me asking), becuase there is a two week limit on such cases.

not specifically. it was a general investigation for anything serious. my mum had her bowel removed 20 odd years ago and as i was having stomach problems they wanted to cross off anything serious. 6 weeks to wait for results is a joke though. they wanted me to wait that long, i contacted my doc who contacted the hospital for results to be sent to him and a week later and a 2 minute phone call i had the all clear. mind you i still had to wait 3 weeks from the test for that. why couldnt the specialist just do that in the first place??? i dunno
