Abnormal Smear Tests

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hello!
I was wondering about something because my last 3 smear tests have been abnormal, and have pre cancerous cells. I went to have biopsy's the other week, and now i've been called back early for treatment. :(
I'm not too worried though, because i've heard of a few women who just go in and have laser treatment and then everything's fine.

I just wanted to know (from someone who's maybe had this done in the past?) does it hurt?

And also, does this ever actually turn into cancer? I mean, what's the worse case scenario?

Any advice/info appreciated. :)

Hi Britney, generally speaking it's unlikely to turn into cancer if it's caught in the earliest stages. But of course only you and your doctor know what stage it's at, and it's best to have the treatment if you've been offered it. The majority of women who have laser treatment are absolutely fine afterwards.

We have a factsheet with a useful link at the bottom:
